Hate this form of invasive advertising, it's popping up all over the place now!

Please get rid

Very bad idea this kind of pop up advertising. More so when many are already subscribers. Turn it off please...

Just come onto the forum for the first time this evening and after I've written this I'm going away until my email link tells me that ad has gone.

Thanks,not.

Love the popup. Brilliant idea, just what you want to stop you reading the interesting stuff. NOT

Trying to get the hundreds of thousands of people who visit this website each month, most of whom are not subscribers, to think about subscribing is clearly something we want to do.

The pop-up should only appear to visitors who are not logged in, once you log in the pop-up will go until you log out, swap computers or your log-in times out after a week (you have to tick 'keep me logged in' ).

I was hoping regular users would rapidly figure this out and accept seeing it once a week as a small price to pay for access to the forum.

I've sent a link to this thread to the marketing department who, before launching it, said they would pull it if there's an adverse reaction.

But we do need to find ways of encouraging non-subscribers to consider taking the magazines.

Well this isn't it - your alienating your existing subscribers

Neil,

I never deliberately log-out, and only occasionally change to another device.

Today ... using exclusively the iPad, I must have seen this infuriating pop-up more than a dozen times.

If it worked as you claim, I wouldn't be bothered.

The marketing people must have statistics and the data to say pop up advertising works (from their point of view) otherwise they would not use it.

I find it a nuisance and it definitely discourages me from being sucked in. In years of internet use I dont think I have ever bought or seen anything that has been thrust in my face, as soon as a popup appears I remove it and am rarely even conscious of what it was saying.

So, another vote here for its removal.

I really don't see the problem, its not as if you have to pay to use this site. The magazine needs subscribers, it's one way of getting them.

no pop up here - firefox + noscript works wonders - I usually browse with images switched off as avoids various tracking schemes as well as saving bandwidth

I too find it very irritating, it pop s up before you get chance to log on😡

I have been a subscribe both direct as now and I the past from my news agent for a good few years now, how about a loyalty bonus of 3 cut price issues? Am I alone in feeling short changed by all these freebies to new subscribers?

Extra pages and useful gift was what got me to add MEW to my sub. BTW tell the admen that when I click subscribe I want to go straight to the page that takes my credit card details, not page after page of lead in stuff. Get all the offers and versions on the same page as the finish button.

I'm logged in, I see it when I go on the site, I read a post , then get it again when I go to the list of posts, every time.

once is enough surely?

so you saying it goes when you are logged in is rubbish.

your web people need to learn their jobs.

Roy.

Irritating to the point of having a very negative effect. I think you could lose some of your regular forum members , particularly those who only log in when they have something to say.

Roy, I'm very sorry that the cookie settings are not working for you. I will have a look at this tomorrow and see if I can come up with a solution for you. When I am logged in, I don't get the pop up recurring, but the website is not really built to deal with this for all possible configurations and I've done the best I can with the resources available. I will see what else I can do for your configuration tomorrow, if you can let me know what browser, OS and cookie settings you use.

Katy,

I see you responded only to Roy, but I will tell you my configuration anyway

[note: this cannot be upgraded]

In the 'Settings' JavaScript is ON, and Block Pop-Ups is ON
