Thread: MEW 300 IS HERE !

Why not allow subscribers the ability to look at the magazines online while all this is going on.

At least they would be able to read them...

Thread: Headstock Dividing Attachment from Hemingway
10/11/2019 11:33:45

Great tool.

I made mine from plans from a model engineers magazine (I think) as i already had some dividing plates.

So a small modification and all was good.

Great for making dials where you need to turn then engrave a line.

Thread: Hemingway Quick Change Tool Holder

Not built this one, im afraid.

But it looks simple to build.

The usual tedium of building the holders is the worst part in any QCTP.

The one I inherited was by Radford and I had to make many holders. Lots of tapping and milling...

Thread: Wall Storage Recommendation

I made use of those takeaway plastic containers to put items in then made a simple plywood shelving unit to hold them all in and hung them on the wall. The first worked so well I built another * Rubs tummy *

Thread: Levelling a lathe..yes that old chestnut again

I recently did a test cut having left my lathe all winter in the dark shed. (She was tucked up). I was 2thou out. Will adjust one of the feet my ML4 is setup on and hopefully get it a little closer, the tenth of a thou is approxmate I can only measure 1thou with my dial indicator.

Why do you use a dial indicator to test for parallel turning? I thought the test was turn both parts of the bar and use a micrometer to measure.

Thread: Twitter

Usually twitter users wanting to create more interest to their page create a giveaway item and then ask to follow and retweet to enter.

If you just want to put adverts for the latest magazine etc then your followers will disappear as that is not very interesting and also cannot be used to start a conversation.

Most of all, Twitter can be fun if there is something of substance worth tweeting about. I have also managed to meet with a few people off Twitter and developed friendships with them ( not M.E.though)

Surely if one clicks accidentally on the ignore button there is a confirmation request before that poster is ignored?

I see no way of unblocking, if that were the case. I've never blocked anyone, to my knowledge. And usually if a post were to be blocked, the missing posts would be indicated (for continuity), even if the post were missing? Forum has some peculiar quirks, it seems.

Go to My Posts and you will see your posting My Postings and My ignored members you can then deselect an ignored member

Thread: slit saw jams
04/11/2017 10:17:10

I avoid using slitting saws if i can. To use one in this instance would be a no-no. I would rather create a quickly formed pile of swarf with a milling cutter than slowly passing a blade through a solid piece of steel like that.

I thought Biax was a German product so there should be no problem seeing as we are still in the EU clock

Hi, I picked up these at a steam fair on Friday. They look as if the base and head have been cast and the rest is home made. They need a little more work but has anyone seen these in a book or magazine?
