Started working life as an Artificer with the British Steel Corporation. After the steel strike in 1980 things were going a bit pear shaped so took a career change and joined the RAF and trained as an Avionics engineer. 15 years later retired from that and had another career change into the IT industry, specialised in real time systems development and later Virtualisation. All that went by the by when the company was bought out and I took redundancy. Now back on the tools as an engineer with a major energy supplier.
Have built up a reasonable workshop over the years, 2 Warco lathes, Large Ajax AJT4 Turret mill, Boxford shaper, Studer Cylindrical grinder, welding kit plus all the usual ancilliary bits and pieces, the ubiquitous Quorn T&C grinder (much modified from original design)
Currently have a 6" Ruston Proctor SD traction engine running plus 2 other engines in build.
