Thread: Improved performance over standard V belts?

I think the only real advantage is, you don't have to take the lathe apart to replace them.

Thread: Sieg SX3 chuck guard
16/10/2020 12:52:47

I removed the guard on my Chester Comet lathe the day I got it, main reason being, it was made from sheet steel and I couldn't see a damn thing through it!

Thread: Yet more confusion!

SteveW is likely right. Nobody knows how quickly the poles swap, when it does occur. It could be another 20 thousand years, yet, but nothing like making preparations and/or small practise runs!

On average, 4 or 5 reversals per million years.

Those suggesting violent actions forget that they would also affect a good neighbour who tries to take the parcel in until the recipient returns home. In our street this would be much more likely than theft.

Yes, but a good neighbour wont open it will they.

You need to fix your space ship. What's the go-to tool?

Grab a pair of mole grips!

they were not mole grips, they were metal shears to cut through the aluminium meteorite shield.

Thread: Upgrade from SC3 lathe
13/11/2018 19:43:40

I have the Chester version of this lathe and am happy with it .

to see what can be done with this lathe go on Youtube and search for "Clickspring"

he's an Australian guy and I wish I could make my lathe do what his does.

his channel is well worth watching.

Thread: index.
30/12/2017 11:22:18

I could very easily do that, I just don't see why I should have to.

It's been fine for 261 issues.

If it aint broke fix it til it is.

Roy.

29/12/2017 12:33:31

I always take the indexes /indice ? out of the mag and keep them in a folder because they are on separate sheets from the mag, until No 262. to get these out I have to deface the mag . WHY?

Thread: Lathe steady
12/11/2017 10:24:39

Glad to help. It gives me confidence that sometimes I actually know what I'm talking about.smile d.

Roy.

10/11/2017 18:38:31

the way I do it is to put a short length in the chuck, turn it to the same diameter as the bar you want to work on, set the steady on to that short piece then slide the steady along to where you need it.

it works for me.

Roy.
