I occasionally speak to forum members on the phone or meet them at shows/club dates but I think it could be nice just to have a casual meet up somewhere.

If I was able to persuade a model engineering club in the Midlands to host a 'show and tell' event for forum members, would anyone be interested in coming along?

I imagine it being a few hours, probably on a weekend afternoon, but maybe a weekday if that proves easier. Simply an opportunity to bring along a couple of models or tools of interest, and have a chat with like-minded forum members.

Ideally we would get use of the club's track, but this wouldn't be essential.

I suggest a small charge or collection tin to cover the costs of teas and coffees, proceeds to the hosting club or any good cause they prefer.

Indeed, are there any clubs willing to offer to host such an event?

Hello Neil, I would be interested in such an event if it was in the Midlands area.

Good idea - Would love to attend but the driving is getting a bit onerous (and painful) these days. My club is Northampton but I expect this is a bit to far south for most as it seems that quite a lot of the forum chappies are from 'oop north - as we southern lot say!!

I asked my question ten days ago.

As only two people have responded positively, I take it this means forum members don't have a great appetite for meeting each other face to face?

all depends on the location and what it's all about, but sounds a possibility

Or they missed it crying.

I think I'm in the Midlands, specify a where and when and I'll get off my backside and come.

I concur with the statement made by Mark Rand, , , I missed this posting. But, I'm in the Midlands and I'm with the 'Yes' faction.

Hi Neil, somehow I missed this too, although I visit the Forum every morning.

I would be interested in this proposed meet-up. i was for a few years a member of a toy steam forum, and when one of the members suggested a meet-up it was met with great interest. His idea was that we held an annual toy steam show, with the proceeds going to charity. It not only made quite respectable sums of money for the chosen charity, but we also found that, behind the avatars, there were some really nice people and some of us still stay in touch, even though the annual event doesn't happen anymore.

John.

Thanks folks, with a bit more interest, I'll start looking for a venue.

Hi Neil. A good idea, but would it be better if it was regionalised so that the whole country could partake in the meetings in their area. This would reduce the travel required and encourage more to participate,I think.

I'd love to meet up, if only to say thank you in person for the excellent (though often conflicting!) advice I've had on the forum.

I'm in Yorkshire and would be more than happy to pick other members up (within reasonable limits) en route.

And if they behave, to deliver back

As a side note, I've often thought it would be good for the Forum or magazine to have a stand at the shows as a meeting point. You could have a special token advertised on the forum and give us cut price tea if we polled up as an incentive!

I am another who missed the first post. Put me down as being interested although I am not a model maker (Motorcycles are my interest) I would attend from an engineering interest.

I'm another who would be interested, depending on location.

Find a possible venue, or better yet, a couple of alternatives, and I would guess there would be a more enthusiastic response.

Jim
