Not today but earlier in the week I made some exhaust adapters for a 1959 Triumph 5T motor bike being restored locally, I nice pleasurable turning job apart from them being in 316 st st. I was amazed when they fitted the cylinder head perfectly. Plus I made a short video of the process.

chessmen3-1.jpgI've been out of hospital for three months now and still have difficulty standing for any length of time.I therefore chose a project which involved a minimum of standing and with the aid of a tube of thread locking compound I've finished it today. Not original I know but it's a chess set made from nuts and bolts.chessmen1-1.jpg Now, where is that chess board?

Nice one Anthony. The knights are ingenious!

Someone will be along in a minute to ask exactly which grade of thread locker you used devil

Used my Hemingway wobble broach today, with great results!

I made the kit last year, used one broach and than put it away! I needed to broach an 8mm hex in some stainless today. Very impressed with the results I must say (once I'd managed to stop the tailstock "walking" back under whilst cutting the broach.

Drilled and tapped a hole in the top of the milling machine ram for an eye bolt. Lifting the ram off is now a far less scary procedure.

I wouldn't have the first clue how to do that! Is it like cutting a keyway?

Jon,

Google "rotary broach". Lots of examples on the net also DIY versions to make yourself.

Hi Emgee. The black pieces were given the heat red hot and dunk in old vegetable oil treatment. The nuts and bolts were bright zinc plated, which had to be removed with hydrochloric acid (B&Q brick cleaner) for the blackening to work.

Nigel, Triumph 5T adaptors, Is the head normally threaded or did that have to be done too? Venom Clubman has a pushed in spigot (REALLY bad idea).

Regards Ian.

After having to find a torch to read the jaw numbers in my lathe chuck on Saturday, today I replaced all the flourescent tubes and starters in the workshop. Cost me 50 quid and now I'm thinking I might need to buy some sun glasses to make it habitable cool

Unfortunately the transformation wears off all too quickly, the fall off in performance is like boiling a frog, one day you just think is it my eyes or the lights. Always remember to take a torch to a restaurant if you would like to know what is on the menu or the bill.

But it is glorious, if it lasts for a week then I will count it as money well spent wink
