Getting the Building the Quorn book is a good idea, it goes through building and as important the set-up options for different operations. Emgee |
Thread: digi phase converter for 10 machines..... |

Adding a motor to turn it into a rotary converter improves the phase balance and provides a degree of energy storage beneficial for starting machines with direct on line motors. The downside is that the motor adds a level of noise and inefficiency. Static converters are reasonably tolerant of supply issues that some countries power distribution systems may provide.
could this be done by letting a machine not being used run.
That would be OK if the motor was not driving the machine otherwise you will wear 2 machines out at the same time. !!!! Emgee |

The tender sides look very good in the pictures but more impressive if seen in the flesh, very nice work. Emgee |

Thread: Old Parvalux motor not starting properly |

Victor I guess the Start and Run refer to winding ends so you should be getting the winding resistance if you measure between the end of each winding and the Neutral post with a multimeter. If you don't have continuity on the Start point and N you will need to investigate further. Emgee |

Victor There are 2 schematics that show 4 wire motors 220v AC but both are capacitor motors, if you can establish with a resistance meter where the yellow cables are connected it may help. Emgee |

Hi Victor The connections I described earlier were refering to an SD type motor but yours seems to be quiite different from anything I have seen before. The current Parvalux catalogue lists SD type all with capacitors for 220v AC operation, I will check the diagrams again to see if there is an arrangement that has 4 wires exiting the motor windings. Does the motor plate have a TYPE named/marked ? Can you see where the 2 yellows connect ? Emgee |
27/09/2023 22:13:29 |
Usually the type of motor has 3 wires from the casing, perhaps 2 white and 1 black. The 2 whites connect across a capacitor (approx 5uf) and the black is neutral, live incoming is connected to either of the white wires, swapping live supply to the other white reverses the motor direction. If the motor is this type you should find equal resistance on each of the windings, measured each wh to bk. The capacitor will be either in the connection box or external, not inside the motor casing. Emgee Edited By Emgee on 27/09/2023 22:16:12 |

Agree with Noel you need a new capacitor, if it has the value marked get the same voltage and uf value, usually a motor rated 350v ac 5uf will run those fractional HP motors. You may want to check the switch is passing volyage/current before buying the capacitor. Emgee |

Mchael The annual consuption you state appears to me to be incorrect, I believe either you have a very slow meter or you may have got the dates wrong, 658 kWh for a year !!! If the figures you stated are correct don't request a meter change. Emgee |

Hi Michael A suitable motor would be flange mounted 4 pole 3 phase running from a VFD that can be mounted in the original cabinet with control from a front fascia mounted control to give stop/start/speed control. If you mostly run at 3000 spindle speed you may want to use a 2 pole motor but that will not be so suitable for lower speeds. Motor .37kW 3 phase 220/380v Delta connected Emgee

+ 1 for a visit to the Forncett St Mary Steam Museum on 1st October to see the full size steam engines running, as Noel says the huge triple expansion Worthington Simpson will be running and also it is model engineers day so there will be some exhibits on display, usually Andrew has parts of his steam engines on show so you see them in the flesh. Andy I believe you need to have a better spec material than mild steel for a spindle, as a minimum EN8 but En16 or higher would be my choice. Emgee |

Martin With a good quality toolblock the user shoudn't experience what you suggest, I have been using the system on 2 cnc lathes for a few years and never experienced such issues. Emgee |
