The busses are on time?????? dont know how they managed that !, must be very confusing for people ! However, as you say, it leaves time for a few Murphy,s, sure what could be wrong with that ? Still does,nt solve the problem of where to get anything. I come across bits of this that and the other, from time to time, no idea what the hell they are, could be OK, could be total crap, the luck of the draw. So much for Model Making ! |

You should know by now that bus and/or train services are not intended to work together, sure what use would that be ? Next thing, you would expect them to run on time !!!! Not at all, they are not there for your benifit, or mine. I just remembered, that company I mentioned was called James Healy, but while Jimmy might still be with us, his company is not. There are a few small engineering companies around but there is a limit to what they can offer, depends what type of work they do. |

There used to be a supplier based in Dublin, with a branch in Cork, who stocked Ali, Brass, Plastic, ect ect. Sad to say, they closed down a year or two back, maybe due to the Brexit cock up, so getting almost anything here now is "difficult" to put it mildly. Has become a case of mend and make do. As you say, tractor parts, now that,s another matter, to be sure, to be sure ! Perhaps that,s why there are no "local" clubs over here. If you want to do any machining around here, you are on your own ! |

Thread: U Tube |

Any time I see someone on U Tube doing a Micky Mouse job in a workshop full of huge machines and all the latest gear, I just sigh and pass on. It,s quite clear that these guys are no Model Engineers [neither am I by-the-way ], no one could afford to buy such equipment and keep it so spic and span. When I want to see guys making and repairing machines and equipment, I watch some of the clips from India and such places. What these guys can do with such basic tools and machines would open your eyes. OK, a few machine guards might not be out of place, and the footwear might not be ideal, but the results are something else ! It seems to be a case of "Needs must " and nothing fancy. |
Thread: Courier problems |

Talking about local County Councils, in this part of this quaint little country, the road I live on has neither a name nor a number, never mind house numbers ! I have seen it on maps as "unlisted ". I asked my Postman once, how he finds some of these hidden dens and his answer was priceless : " No problem, I served my time with Marco Polo "! |

Talking about couriers, is anyone surprised ??? I was told by one some years ago that my address did not exist ! I said in reply, "I know that, you know that, but the Tax Man does not, he keeps sending me demands, and they get here, strange ?" I advised them to check with the Inland Revenue, which seemed to do the trick. Item arrived two days later. |

Thread: Draper GD16/16c pillar drill drive belts |
27/08/2023 15:55:40 |
Hi Jon man, Your drill will be much the same as about 40 others, just a different name and colour. It is 16 speed using two belts, in my case both the same length. If that does,nt work, just change one. Belts are cheap. As others said, the middle spindle rotates free, I,d say it,s just stuck with rust or muck. I picked up a similar drill some time ago and am "restoring" bit by bit, no mad rush, since I already have two drills plus my mill. They are a good machine for most workshop use and can handle up to 1" drills easy enough. Dont be surprised if the table has more holes than a net, some people never know when to stop drilling or when to put a piece of wood under the job . It,s true ! I may have to sheet the table on my one, it,s that bad. |
Thread: Bandsaw coolant system. |
26/08/2023 09:09:12 |
My system uses a pump from a clapped out washing machine and a spare saucepan from SWMBO. Has been working for so long now that I seldom even think about it. Spares are easy to come by ! Just wondering, why would anyone need coolant while cutting wood ??? I think there is a picture of my set up in my album. |
Thread: Unusual Thread Type? |

Speaking of odd taps and dies ect, like many others, I suspect, I have ended up with a collection of odd taps and a few dies over the years. Most of them are BSW or BSF, not much call for them these days, but it seems a shame to just dump them, but what does one do when you have six or seven of the same size ? [Dont even ask how this came about ! ] Also have a few number and letter drills, very few know what I ,m talking about if I mention "Letter O " drill Makes me realize just how old I am. I even remember when we used to use 6" rules !!!! Voice from the back say,s "What were they for ?" |
