Where can I 'repurpose' it from?

7 forum posts | Hi I need a tiny amount of 0.020" spring steel for the number punch holder of Thomas/Hemingway's universal pillar tool - 0.2" x a couple of inches. I don't really want to buy several lifetimes worth. There must be some common household or workshop object I can rob something suitable from? My imagination has failed me and I can't think of any. Cheers John |

2356 forum posts 47 photos | Th recoil starter on any mower or weed trimmer engine has several feet of top quality spring steel strip. You can probably get a used one with a broken end free from a mower or small engine shop. There will likely be hundreds of scrap engines at a metal scrap yard, you can get one there for very little money. JD |

15 forum posts | John, Look inside an old VHS type video cassette. Turn cassette over on bench, remove five crosshead screws, separate top and bottom halves of cassette. Flat spring is in top half of cassette, carefully prise off. It is there to hold the tape reels down so that they don't ride up and lift off of the turntables below. Might be useful. regards Derek |
