Gene, I always use a high value resistor to discharge my capacitors, much better for the capacitor too. I use crock clips being careful to only touch one terminal with my hand at a time to avoid a shock. If you leave the resistor connected then the capacitor can't recharge itself later as mentioned by Andrew in an earlier post. Berty |

Model Engineer mag came late, but no problem. ME number 4639 cover date 22nd May arrived yesterday 26th May, 4 days late. As a subscriber mag usually comes 4 days early so does that make it 8 days late ? Haven't got MEW June yet either, but doesn't matter I'm sure it will come soon and I'll have a good read. Cover date for MEW is 29th May according to the advert in May issue on page 52, so not time yet. Berty North London

I have heard of Arris Rail as in fencing. (A length of wood cut diagonally to form a triangular shaped end cross section). If the bottom jaw had this shape, in a much reduced form of course, then as Mike says, it would push the work out of the jaws. Berty

Thread: Single to 3 phase invertor and smart meters |

I didn't know you could get electricity for 12.33 p/kWh, I'm paying double that, but at least I'm 54p a year better off than John as I don't have a smart meter. I have the same policy as Peter and Vic, it's only plugged in if I need to use it and nothing on 'standby'. Berty |

John, Look inside an old VHS type video cassette. Turn cassette over on bench, remove five crosshead screws, separate top and bottom halves of cassette. Flat spring is in top half of cassette, carefully prise off. It is there to hold the tape reels down so that they don't ride up and lift off of the turntables below. Might be useful. regards Derek |
Thread: The 2012 Model Engineer Exhibition at Sandown Park on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of November |

DMB, If you have MEW number 195, there is a free show guide pullout in the centre. The first page of this pullout shows the times. If you don't have it, ask and I'll tell you what it says. rgds Derek

I received ME 4393 yesterday but no MEW yet. I noticed that ME 4394 is on sale in my local WHS. Enfield. EN1 |

Sadly, I've not had ME 4393 or MEW 172 yet. I keep looking at the doormat with a long face. I'll be annoyed if they are 'lost in the post'. : ( Enfield, North London. EN1 |
