I got a new lathe, Warco GH1330, although it was delivered early to beat the Christmas rush So far very pleased with it, needs a little bit of tinkering here and there but no signs of casting sand in the gearboxes and fit and finish seems very good

merry christmas all

I was a good boy and got

Glass scale for the z-axis of my mill to give me the full set from Allendale
Mini indexable boring bar from glanze
Set of 3 indexable boring head bits also from Glanze
6-10mm drill set in 0.1mm increments
"Ploughing by steam" Haining/Tyler

Probably a bit anti-social top disappear into the shed on Xmas day so will have to wait until tomorrow to have a play.

Good grief!

Are all you guys married to Model Engineers - or maybe you are very good at dropping detailed hints ! All very sensible, interesting presents - the thing is though are you prepared to say just what presents you bought in return?

 Happy Christmas

My prezzie was a subscription to MEW.
Pity I haven't received no. 172 yet....
Perhaps I wasn't such a good boy after all.  Or maybe NE Hampshire is too deep in the back of beyond.

Happy Christmas.

I got a tee shirt too!   Advertising Henderson's Relish!
That'll stop me from lounging around the house in my PJs.   (There goes my credibility)

Usual antifreeze for the coffee, gratefully received, new mug, ceramic that is not transplant although that would also be an improvement.

Problem as you get older is you start to get most things around you and in mine and Ower Gert's case we tend to buy what we want when we need it.

Another downside for me is being self employed all new tooling - goodies etc are a business expense so whereas a few years ago Gert could buy me a new gismo, she doesn't now as it's no longer personal.

I've got 172 in NE Hampshire, from my local Smiffs. Smirk, smirk !
And my Xmas present was a Cowells Vertical mill (delivered early), which I haven't played with much because it's b******n freezing in my workshop..
Haven't bought SWMBO anything yet (but she is looking at the clothes catalogues (shudder, shudder ) )

IWe agreed ££ this year, but my wife got me some stocking fillers including a 1952 ME, a shire book about steam rollers and a large coffee table book on British Steam Rail.

She got a contribution towards an i-pad which seems to be keeping her happy....

Plannig to thaw out the workshop tomorrow!

Somewhere is a book on steam engines from my Dad but my wife hid it when it came  and can't find it!

A lined furry hat with earmuffs from my daughter. Apparently she had heard that it was cold in my garage cum workshop! (Or is workshop cum garage?) Anyway, thanks Dawn.

Otherwise, to borrow and modify something Tubal Cain once said, my Christmas stocking was not properly filled!

My book has turned up and it is A History of Hot Air and Caloric Engines by Robert Seir.
Lots of strangeness to get my head around!

Peter - remember to keep a seperate set of files for socks. Once they have been used on steel, they will never file socks properly again.

I said "filled", not "filed"!

A Random Walk in Science, and an engine hoist. Well, an engine hoist when I go and collect it, at any rate... Anyway, why? well I need one, and SWMBO has this morbid fascination with the moving around of machinery, and regards it as something of a spectator sport. So, she's bought me one for Christmas. Wasn't too difficult to convince her of the economics of this - if I hire one three times, I've entirely paid for the hire company's one.

Hi Guys,
Yesterday I went out the back door, well it was such a nice day after all the snow we have had, and I noticed that someone had filled my garage with enough tools and machinery to run a pretty good workshop. "Holy smoke", I thought Santa has been uncommonly generous this year , although he must have been in a bit of a hurry as he left the place in a bit of a mess. Then I remembered, it was all mine! It's been so long since I have been able to go in the garage due to cold and snow that I forgot what was in there.
Happy New Year

Yes, I too looked in my garage yesterday only to find that my jar of cooling water for use when grinding tools had disappeared..........

Yes, it had frozen, broken the glass, melted and wet the bench!

Oh dear, on with the fan heater!

A revolving centre on 1/2" shank for the boring head to go in the tailstock so I can offset it for  turning tapers

A "Keep calm and carry on" t-shirt which is a good motto for me when in the garage workshop, either metal bashing or motorcycle mechanicking

And just treated myself to an Evolution Rage circular saw to save me hours hacksawing through metal !

PS Peter - my diluted cutting fluid in an oil can also froze up !
