More about me:

My secondary education was spent in a small Grammar school from which I gained a rather mediocre set of GCE results. At this school, I had one 40 minute lesson per week on woodwork & metalwork during which I was taught soft soldering, brazing, use of taps & dies and wood turning on a Portas lathe! That is the sum total of my engineering training! On leaving school I joined what was then the Post Office Telephones division of the GPO as an apprentice telecomm techician, leaving on early retirement some 35 years later as a first line manager and having gained a C&G Full Technological Certificate in Electronics and Telephony. I became involved with engineering some years ago when I bought a s/h Hobbymat lathe. Later I p/x'd it for the current Warco 220 lathe. I also have a Warco MiniMill, a NuTool ½" drill press and a Clarke 5" double ended grinder, along with the usual small tools. In terms of engineering, I am mainly concerned with learning how to use the machine tools to produce good quality work, to make additional tooling, and to use the tools to repair broken equipment. I have no desire (and less time!) to make models. Other interests are choral singing, computing and to a lesser extent, railways.
