Ouch... electric car crash

I hear Richard Hammond has written off an £880,000 electric sportscar whilst breaking his knee.

I trust both of them were well insured.

Puts a whole new slant on battery powerer cars.

All those amps and red hot wires all over the place.

So much safer than petrol.

Thats shocking (pun intended) Hammond must not have a bone left to break which hasn't been. Didn't the electric brakes work? Wasn't there enough static surface tension between road and tyres?

What caught fire? Bet it was the lithium battery - again. Wonder if all the "Smart" set with hybrids are watching?

Ran clean out of talent.

Question might be was it a left or right corner he stuffed it. Now there are more vids, one shows it as him attempting to turn right. Perhaps he didn't know which way to turn? Maybe someone moved the goal posts - but he scored an own goal either way!

I suspect the problem was due to driver error and the fact that electric cars are like steam cars in that you have instant full power when you hit the go pedal!

You will find that the traction battery system will have been isolated within milliseconds of the car realizing it was in a crash

Also had the Lithium battery's taken fire the flames would have been much whiter and a lot more fierce in addition the fire brigade would not have been able to put it out quickly saving half the car....or even approach it !!

Lithium batteries even with protection can cause flames that could destroy a car.

Full torque, but no engine braking?, you would have thought that if this was a hill climb circuit, the swiss could afford a bit of Armco..............................
