Thanks Jason your second idea appears to be simpler, less technical

Trying to project a slot down the sloping face of a rhomboid figure but instead of following the 'plane' of the face the projection follows the relevant drawing plane as in the screenshot below. Question is how do I most easily acheive what I am trying to do please?

@David. Thank you so much, that is awesome. Went back and opened the part and when I went to open the drawing the option to re-project was there and accepting defaults in there re-drew it.

Thank you Guys, that sorted out the problem. Am I right in thinking that to get the Drawing corrected I will have to Re-create it as a New Drawing @

Having gone through the process of drawing the Clamp part I find that I have a dimension wrong, The 6,2mm hole centre is only 8,8mm from the 10mm hole centre. It should be 10mm. Can I go back and just change that dimension and have the rest of the drawing update to suit the adjusted dimension ?

I have made the mistake of clicking where I shouldn’t have on the very first screen the result was to change the planes from XY to XZ. The Undo button is useable at this point and when dimmed is difficult for me to recognise 🙂 which I’d why I couldn’t see it !

Trying to change the planes back is proving difficult as I thought the choices in the left pane might do it but no. Easiest thing at this point is to abandon the sketch and start again 😊 Thanks for the help 😊

Health issues have kept me away unfortunately, from both here and the workshop, which has only had the one visit to make sure corrosion wasnt running rampant about the place. Happily things are much better so hope to be back to normal now.

Amazon's system is such that a packer shouldn't run out of any boxes but it does happen. However, the packing lines are segregated such that one line deals with multiple small items with a certain range of packaging, another line will deal with single larger items again with an appropriate range of packaging, the system is really quite slick.

The whole bangshoot is driven by a huge database of items, just about every possible property of an item is held in the database including its physical size and weight. Those details (along with value) are responsible for allocating the type of packaging. Problems however arise if a mistake has been made in inputting the item size to the database, e.g. a USB stick that is .05m x .005m x .025m is input with the first dimension as 0.5m........your going to get too big a box.

It doesn't happen often, the hundreds of thousands of packages that get the the right packaging and get delivered correctly don't make news but if you have an agenda, waste, recycling, don't like Amazon etc. then the very small percentage that are overpacked or go astray make a much better story.

Having worked for Amazon packaging items I can say that the packaging for any item is specified by the system though it is allowable for the packer to reduce the size of the specified box if it is obviously far too big (or small). The packaging type is bar coded and is checked by the system as the package proceeds. There is limited space on a packaging line to provide space for every size and type of packaging. If the system specified packaging is obviously wrong it is supposed to be sidelined so the system can be updated with a more appropriate size but this usually doesn't happen as it slows an individual packers output on which they are measured. Small higher value item like jewellery are deliberately packed in larger boxes to disguise the contents. Smaller packets are also more easily 'lost' in just about any package handling system that involves human handling.

I want to make a tangential type tool holder. Do I need to worry overmuch about the steel type I use? If there is a 'best' option I would rather use it particularly if it gives me experience machining something other than 'bright mild' or EN1A.

I have no problem with that. I am 64 and relatively new to actual machining and making stuff so the engineering is,as it always has been, interesting and useful to me. It may come as a surprise but I have absolutely NO interest in constructing steam locos though I appreciate the effort and skill that go into them and much, if not the majority of the 'engineering' involved is transferable. I will never be a giant of the model engineering world, I wont live long enough, but I do have aspirations to write the occasional article for MEW which maybe others like me, part of the future of our hobby I hope, might appreciate.

As for the baby boomers children; both my daughters are married, have average jobs as do their husbands but they both have more disposable income and time than I did 35 years ago.

I wonder if curing could be speeded up by applying some vacuum to a vessel containing the casting? Catching and condensing the acetone might not be too problematic.

Likely blown one or more of the large three legged switching devices on the main control board. I would be very surprised if Warco would send someone out to fix it, more likely to send you a new board to change out yourself assuming it is still carrying some sort of guarantee.

If you do have to swap it out yourself take plenty of photos and notes as to what goes where. and unplug from the mains first. Good luck

Thanks Michael. I was trying a tangential tool that Howard Lewis has loaned me and a new tool height gauge which worked a treat and accounts for the nice finish on the head of the pin. I measured the internal diameter of the circlip and actually turned the slot to the correct depth. I have been practicing making use of the micrometer to measure and then better use of the scales on the lathe to make cuts down to a calculated dimension.
