I have just received a private message on this forum from a Vince Allan inviting me to join an investment partnership. My response was to delete it.

Has anyone else experienced scammers using the private message system?

No not received anything but thanks for the heads up. I certainly would not enter into anything from an approach like that.

Deleted also but the temptation to string along one of these low-life scum was almost too much! Or, perhaps, reply with

" Thank you for what seems to be an irresistible offer. An investment by your high profile partners of say £100,000 would enable me to set up my multi-computer internet scam operation. This would be profitable both for me AND your investors with little costs incurred and returns divided 80/20 between myself and your organisation. Please note that the required amount must be made available in CASH only and left in a suitably marked container at a location to be notified later. I'm sure you will appreciate the need for ABSOLUTE secrecy in this matter. Please reply to :-

.

Ditto.

But Mr. Allen was kind enough to furnish me with an email address to reply to.

If I had more time for mischief I would play the game for a while. wink

I noticed, late last evening [*] that the forum was inaccessible ... Was that perhaps because someone, friend or foe, was working on it ?

I've had a load of scam 'phone calls this morning, but no invitations to invest via the ME forum PM system. Obviously I'm not rich enough. sad

Either that or I'm on a black list. The only time I've been involved in a boiler room share scam I strung the guy along for two weeks before telling him his 'scheme' was a scam. Superficially the scheme looked legitimate. The company being pushed did exist, in the US. However, the shares were listed on the 'pink' stock exchange, a bit like the AIM in the UK, but even less liquid. So buying shares would be easy, but selling would be darn near impossible.

The shoddy little ***** even sent me a PM.

What kind of moron uses a website for scamming the members and chooses to send his pitiful missive to a moderator?

I must ask Katy to add tow more buttons to the moderator toolbar: "Nuke from orbit" and "Terminate with Extreme Prejudice".

Neil,

Are you completely sure you did not infringe his human rights, by suspending his account? smiley

After all, his account may have been violated by several third, fourth fifth, etc parties!

A friend of mine was recently stranded in some foreign hospital after a road accident somewhere. Of course, I would have immediately sent him some funds (had he not been at home when I phoned to tell him of the scam).

Since then I've had yet

another email 'request' from him to join his "linkedin" account. What a good idea!!

Responding, by clicking anything on that email could result in my 'puter being compromised - possibly ending up soliciting ME members (and others?) for fast loans, supply of illegal drugs, etc - or maybe getting all my files encrypted by the scum (I would dump the thing if that happened as it is already past its sell by date).

On second thoughts, you may have been right? Especially if only Joined yesterday!

Edited to apologise for the apparent lack of punctuation, etc - that is the best my 'puter will do.  I am quite literate (my wife often says 'too literate' most of the time!).  Scum, not scam, was intentional.

I'm pretty sure he infringed the forum T&Cs, and as he only validated immediately before sending those pms, it wasn't an established member having their account hacked.

Sorry, but not enough information without atleast one letter to determine if it was urin- or copul- ... atesmiley

Same message either way, and probably something that most would understand - even those from faraway fields....
