I will be holding an hour long 'open forum' at the Model Engineer Exhibition for readers of MEW to come along and share their thoughts on the magazine ask questions etc.

I haven't fixed the time yet, but it will either be on Friday or Sunday.

I plan to give a very short introduction to how the magazine is put together, and then invite discussion and questions on content, style, submitting articles and so on. I will be keeping the focus strictly to MEW and its content.

All readers are welcome, I will put up the exact time and date in advance.

Neil

Brave man!

Probably best if you get security to stop them tearing themselves limb from limb smile p

Hi, that would be interesting, and could be an exhibit in its own right.

Regards Nick.

Will rotten tomatoes be available to purchase at the exhibition or should we be expected to bring our own ?!

Good luck Neil, I'd like to be there, but it's a bit too far for me.

Why rotten toms?

Nah! go 4 bad eggs - they make a mess but SMELL as well!

Seriously, I`m only joking as I think Neil is doing a good job @ editing the mag and is coming up with original ideas like mentioned above.

Something else he did recently; trap a 2 thou feeler gauge between work edge and body of a centre drill to ascertain position of mill/lathe spindle in relation to the work. A kick yourself moment when you think WHY didn`t I think of that? Quicker than fiddling about with a wiggler. I`m using that method all the time now.

Is that the healthy version of using a Fag paper to do the same thing?

Would it be possible to video the session?

> Would it be possible to video the session?

It would be difficult to do this well when dealing with a room full of people, and I fear it could stop some people from participating fully.

remember you now have to have an age limited posted for online video's!!

Mental age or chronological is up for debate though !wink

Good luck but like the way the mag is going.

.

No sorry bring your own. The problem is if MTM supplies rotten tomatoes or bad eggs we will get the flat earth society saying they aren't rotten enough or bad enough and start spouting the fit for purpose mantra.

Think I might go along to watch this one, looks like it might end up like a slapstick comedy, with everyone throwing messy stuff at each other!

Hi Niel, brave man but I think we should be happy you want to know what we are thinking and trying to produce a mag we all want.

would it be possible to produce a summary of the comment / suggestions , and what your thoughts are on how to improve.

remember the saying" you can not please everyone all of the time"

Bonne chance Neil. Shame it's over 1000 miles too far for me. Can some clever engineer provide live streaming video for us expats?

Russell.

'open forum' at the Model Engineer Exhibition for readers of MEW

Neil as you are only opening the forum to readers how will you keep out the riff-raff and trouble makers that don't actually read itdevil Secret handshake, password, etc

Maybe some ex-readers would also be interested in what you have to say and put across why they have stopped subscribing.

Whatever next - an editor who listens to his readers!

My understanding of editors is that:

They don't listen, after all they are always right.
They bully staff, the readers and the public to get results
They never let the truth get in the way of a good story
They do not respect the law, are no stranger to the courts and are surrounded by criminals
They promote sensationalism and stifle progress
They are exceptionally well paid.
etc

How on earth do you qualify for an editors job?

Seriously keep up the good work, with respect to previous editors who provided some good foundations, I think the forum and MEW is going forward in the right direction .

Remember what Mark Twain said: "I am not the editor of a newspaper and shall always try to do right and be good so that God will not make me one."

They didn't have Model magazines in his day but I am sure he would have included them if they did.
