Someone has done a redesign of the Quorn to make it out of stock materials. I'm sure the drawings are on the interweb, search for Bonelle. There are some photos here

Hi Duncan,

Like you I couldn't get your first link to work. This Link to Bonelle drawings seems to work.

Excellent, Thor yes

... Downloaded in seconds on my iPad; and I've saved it to GoodReader, to study at leisure.

Thanks

That's cheating.

Where's the kudo is aging a pile of stock materials?

It's traditional to age Quorn castings for 30-40 years in a cardboard box as a rite of passage!

This is an old posting but I want to buy a set of Quorn castings. Have checked the previous link but it's not Model Engineering Service based in Chesterfield. Anybody have an update regarding supply of castings?

Thanks,

Alan.

Alan, set on ebay at the moment;

Then sell the lovingly aged castings to someone else for them to machine!

Don't machine them, it spoils the mojo, just turn them over occasionally ...

Hi Peak 4, thanks for the heads up. I am very interested and will make an offer. Also thanks to Duncan Webster for the link. I have downloaded the drawings and if I don't get the Quorn castings I will build a unit from scratch.

Michael and George,

I am glad I could be of some help. When I made my simple Cutter Grinder I just used ideas from the Bonelle/Quorn and combined it with what I had at hand. Did take a few years from the fist machining until I had sharpened the first slot drill.

I hope Neil can update us with news about the availability of quorn castings. I think there is a demand for getting a set of quorn castings, if only just to sit and watch them "mature" for several years ,as is tradition!

Regards

Del

If all else fails, at least Martin Models are still carrying the torch. They have a couple of useful options as well, a 5C/R8 capable toolholder casting and a 2 1/2" centre height option for the tool holder/ spiraling head/tailstock instead of the original 2".

Usual disclaimers etc.

With the low cost of new HSS milling cutters these days, the case for extended ageing of the Quorn castings would seem stronger than ever.

Just saw on another forum that the site is back up

LINK DISABLED

WARNING- I clicked on this link earlier this morning and was taken to one of these dodgy sites that locks the computer and asks you to phone a number to report some problem with dodgy content. I had to switch off the computer to regain control and I just hope no suspect malware has ended up on my computer. I must run a scan later.

In case Douglas is right I have disabled the link in his post.

Douglas - I would suggest scanning sooner rather than later...
