Just sorted the cricket club strimmer. Carb service kit gasket (ebay not OEM) had vital hole missing so needed surgery - must have scuppered people who didn't examine how it worked. Must say this stihl is much nicer than my slightly larger Axminster one.

Now to find out how the sheep got into the garden or perhaps just sharpen my knives........mmm mutton.

Hi all I am going public today I have ordered a set of drawings for a super simplex so now you all know I'll just have to build it!

It may be a while before I start as I am still sorting my workshop after inheriting dads stuff I have to get it all set up and wired in but still not too testing and a good couple of weeks should see it done and a start made

Don't rush, I think about 20 years is the average build time

Neil

It's good to know that I am just over halfway through then embarrassed

Just got back from Manchester Model Engineering Exhibition.

Mostly locos and a good smattering of stationary engines, only a handful of tooling

Well attended for a small show, met a few old and new faces.

Bought some TC inserts, including a few specials to fit on simple custom shanks.

Oh my that means I'll be nearly 80 when it's done and I was hoping to have it done in time to give the grandkids a ride on instead they might have to finish it!

Not today but yesterday spent the afternoon in A&E with a steel splinter embedded in my eye! crying 2 Irritating to say the least. Doc couldn't remove it! Have to go back on Monday. Wear safety goggles people!

Edited By Hollowpoint on 26/02/2016 22:11:23

Just noticed this.

Hope that A&E can sort you out - I had a close call a few years ago and even though the offending object hadn't stayed in my eye (it just scratched the 'sclera' - (I think)) my eye went very horrible, red, watery and swollen and I couldn't see a thing through it for hours.

My eye is feeling a lot better now, I was proscribed some ointment which seems to be doing the trick. It's still there though! It's no bigger than a pin prick, amazing how much irritation something that small can cause!

Showed my son [34]how to make two bolts off the brake callipers on his car which both sheared off whilst removing them to fit new. They worked a treat,a successful Saturday but I missed those couple of pints in the pub.

Just a note on the metal in your eye, make sure its out, if you ever need an MRI tell them about it. if its still in it will cause extensive damage. they will need to x ray your eye first to ensure its gone. but they wont know if you dont tell them.

Hollowpoint, that sounds nasty. Does the doc have a rare earth magnet in his "toolkit"? If you have one, maybe take it with you?

My Monday appointment is with an eye clinic so I'm sure I'll be in good hands. Im not sure a scan would reveal anything its that small?

Today, I bought a rather interesting lathe tool, which I hope to adapt to the Myford.

REIKA WERK GmbH

GHB - 76 - 1509DG/1RE

(also carries the number 90847 on the holder, and 54 on the insert)

The holder is like a modern 'indexable' parting tool, but the insert has left and right chamfering edges.

So far as I can determine; REIKA specialises in Tube processing, so I presume this is just a very exotic deburring tool for use in a cut-off lathe.

If anyone has links to a catalogue, or can advise, I would be grateful.

... if not, I will post photos tomorrow.

Put some paint on the Brittannia that I bought in December. I had stripped all the paint off and acid etch primed it all. Next was the satin black cellulose, result was good and I am well pleased. Then came the enamel - eek what a different paint to play with. 3 hours between coats was a pulse raiser and now I am waiting until tomorrow to go back into the workshop so I do not raise dust.

Mind that's not too bad, I have just looked at the cost of transfers. Ahhhhh

Will post photos if it all turns out well 😜

Pop up a photo Michael, from what I could see it may be off one of their multi head machines that rotate around the pipe to cut it off and the chamfer is more likely for weld prep rather than simple deburing but would depend on the size of your insert.

Just finished a modification to my "tadpole" reclining tricycle - fitting panniers so that I can use it for shopping. This has necessitated relocating the rear lights and the safety flag. If the weather holds I shall be off on a test ride tomorrow, thus reinforcing my reputation as the village's ancient eccentric, or village idiot, depending on point of view!

Neat, that will do internal and external corners as I'm sure you have already worked out.

I got a square insert with similarly clipped corners from JB tools yesterday, mjounted on a simple shank it should do a similar job.

You may find small internal chamfers a problem as it looks to only have about 7deg of front clearance so will start to rub on small dia holes but should be fine if you need any external ones. Same will apply to yours Neilsad

Don't let them near you if they suggest an MRI scan, I went for one and they insisted every piece of metal was removed from my person and explained that it could be very painful if I had any metal in my body, I stupidly got a steel splinter in my eye once and it was agonising but the splinter was removed by holding a powerful magnet in front but the irritation lasted for several days.

Mike:

Is that tadpole your own design? May we see a photo, please?
