Oh dear, that's a shame and a loss of valued insight. Sorry to see you wind down, although I understand the reasons. Good luck with the other ventures.

Andrew

Best of luck, Barrie.

I know you have never been comfortable with various aspects of the forum, I hope you find what you are looking for elsewhere.

These days i only login and post something or reply to something if it really tweaks my interest - which is becoming rarer by the day or i have just about gone insane with boredom but that is not just on this forum its all of them !

Barrie

Pity you can't continue contributing to this forum, your hands on information is always worth listening to, and having known you for a very long time I know your expertise in many areas associated with model engineering and laminating products, I think you will do an Arnold again and look forward to that happening.

I also check the forum daily, as well as classified. Keep up the good work.

Regretably the changing content of the Forum is down to the Forum members who actually use it. Turning away from it because of such changes will not change anything..

Everyone has a choice.

Barrie.

Being an 'occasional dipper' member of the forum I will be sad to see you becoming, like me, an occasional visitor. I have always found your posts to have been succinct and to the point, unlike a lot of the great unwashed masses!

Stay safe and best of luck in all you do.

Martin

I think the popcorn meant. (AND)

Sorry to see you go. I have had my fair share of tell off's in my short time here.

I still think it is a good forum & source of info. Even if the info is varied, i guess everyone has there own idea of things.

Steve.

Being one of the "Great Unwashed", I think I might stick around for another while !!

No matter how hard you try, you cannot please everyone.

All in all, I think the Mods do a good job in a difficult situation, even though they have trimmed my wings a few times, but then, that,s their job.

No-one said it was easy.cheeky

Some feel it,s time to move on, simple as that, so good luck.

I understand how you feel Barrie and I’m glad you haven’t left completely. I’ve had to quit a couple of model engineering forums In the past some years ago due to heavy handed moderators. I wasn’t the only one. Both as it happens American mods supporting Americans and denigrating others. The actual moderation on here doesn’t seem to bad although I must admit I dislike the attitude of both Neil and Jason. In fact I felt it necessary just recently to add Jason to my ignore list. I don’t know anything about the two new moderators but I’ve always agreed with the vast majority of what Dave (SOD) says and unlike others can do it politely. I haven’t noticed Mikes input so obviously I’ll be keeping an open mind. Keep well Barrie, I’ll PM you in due course.

It's always a shame when someone feels the need to resign (or semi) from a forum such as this but it has to be remembered that times and people do change.

I have been a moderator on an engineering forum for over 19 years now and it is noticeable how the users (members) interest changes over time. There is an initial keenness to be in contact with like minded people and to share experiences whether gaining or giving knowledge.

After a while the realisation sets in that you know as much as you need too and you no longer know more than those asking the questions. You also notice that the newcomers queries begin to get repetitively similar and suggesting that the search facility is used normally falls on deaf ears.

There are times, no doubt, when moderators may seem harsh but consider also the logistics of the forum. There is minimum advertising here because it is, I believe, run by a commercial enterprise. The owners therefore are entitled to set some rules and live by them. If these rules do not sit well with you then of course you have the right to stand back.

I do find it a shame that Barrie felt the need to publicize his disagreement with Jason as it does not allow Jason to defend his position and as such seems somewhat unfair. A quiet departure with PMs to close contacts would have been more diplomatic.

How very odd!!

Possibly being an out of touch wrinkly, I see this and the few other forums that I visit, as somebody else's property to which I am given access. The owners and their representatives are at liberty to set their own rules and I'm at a loss to understand why anyone should feel aggrieved by that. Could somebody update me on modern concepts of socially acceptable behaviour, please?

Iv'e never had any problem with the moderators & don't expect any in the future, I also find it bizarre that someone has to even mention they are leaving a forum unless to score a juvenile point over someone?indecision
