For scale the round building behind is a museum. Owned by Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov.

Looks like it has a chimney(steam powered?) and a crows nest next to the radar arrayed bridge - impressive! smiley

as he's visiting Whitehaven, he must be going for a ride on L'aal Ratty. I remeber the rope worked incline from Haig Pit down onto the harbour.

Mr Mordashov certainly lives in a different world. I cant understand how anyone can justify £40 million for one large boat,no matter how impressive it appears.sarcastic

Not at all my idea of a boat or ship. More of a floating piece of modern art. Uggggg.

Don't knock it, it gave somebody (many) a job building it, work running and supplying it and in the end, he will need another one!

I think that's like the unfortunate photos I take where mum seems to have a tree growing out of her head. The chimney was an air-vent at Wellington Colliery. There's an old picture of it here and you can get a feel for the 'good old days' by reading the mine's casualty list.

I'm really sorry to say this, but I like it, and if I had £100M to spare and no good causes to support...

Just another obscene monument to the proceeds of individual greed and large scale corruption.

Any thoughts of piracy / resale / proceeds to charity? I'll sharpen me cutlass and dust me eyepatch if so. (Arrrr......)

Would feel happier knowing I had given mosquito nets to 26 million people rather than having a shiny boat. Then again you don't become Russias richest man by sharing.
