micro lathe new with warranty £500. The auction ones will already set you back nearly £300 (44%) and you have no idea if it even runs - no brainer for me?

Thread: Courier problems |

If the seller has proof of delivery from the courier there is no recourse as far as ebay are concerned- happened to me, workmen in next house signed for it, never to be seen again!

Thread: Is a 3" Cornish coal fire possible? |
31/05/2023 09:22:10 |
sweet violet 3.5 gauge loco uses an boiler which is essentially a cornish boiler modded for a loco. It would be very easy to alter the design to a pure cornish shape and shorten it. Od is 6£, id is 3.5" and runs on coal. If you go to my fb page, pendle steam boilers, go to photos and fourth row down there are some pictures of me making one to give you inspiration! Its a very simple build. Mine has been modded to run a mill engine with two inch bore, three inch syroke with an elleven inch flywheel four inches wide. This was not a commercial project but was and is an ongoing build for pleasure.

Thread: Washer for leaking 3D print nozzle? |
26/02/2023 20:47:32 |
adding a washer willk significantly kower your nozzle Z axis setting - be sure you have at least that amount of bed movement before adjusting. They arent designed to use a washer so its either not tight enough or the threads are not good. Ive had it happen a few times, used ptfe tape with good results. Tried loctite, very bad idea!

Thread: Ceramic material for burners |
02/02/2023 15:34:54 |
Thanks all - I ujsed to get mine from Polly but with their massive scaling back due to the owners retiring they no longer stock it. There must be somewhere else to get it from but no luck thus far.

Does anyone know of a stockist, supplier or manufacturer of soft ceramic tiles used in burners? Our supplier has cesed trading and ive looked everywhere for an alternative. The hard ceramic tile doesnt work - they melt. The only ones which can deliver the required heat output are those which crumble if you rub them. If we cant source these then its back to the drawing board for all of our twin boiler burners. Thanks, Nigel at PSB |
Thread: Horizontal boiler |

these used to be common in the boating world. They are designed for short duration-high output used in straight running steam boats. |
Thread: What's the most key point when you decide to get a 3d printer |

your ability to maintain them - some are a pig to replace things in the hot end, others are a doddle - then bed size, software, price and so on |
Thread: How many years will this be on ebay? |

Im sure its been on there for many years already - why would you bother ?**LINK** |
Thread: Galvanitic/electrolytic reaction |
01/10/2022 21:07:42 |
As a professional steam boiler maker I use the same solution as the OP for copper, often leaving a boiler in there for several days. I donr put brass in as the process strips zinc and leaves a patchy copper/brass finish which looks bad...I digress, I put a boiler in the pickle a few days ago with a piece of hose and jubilee clip attached, When I took it out the acid the jubilee clip was completely rusted through. A combination of acid, water and contaminants makes short work of anything ferrous. I have used dilute citric acid for ferrous parys in the past but they go very black. |
Thread: Undersize thread |
05/09/2022 18:37:13 |
I used to encounter this problem often when making fittings for our boilers out of brass - some would be ok but many cut undersize. I wouldnt entertain using a non split die - thought they were just for chasing? The solution, using the exact same split die was to cut everything from Colphos (leaded phosphur bronze). Perfect threads every time. |
Thread: Electric boiler feed pumps |

12v electric pressure pumps are often used in caravans. Lots for sale on ebay.
High pressure submersible caravan pumps work at a max of 32psi - wont feed a boiler.

Thread: Electric plug identification |

Thanks all. I found an old lapop plug lead which has sorted the 240v side. The 12v is as others have suggested, one flat side and the other with a nick in it . Ive ordered one off tbay so fingers crossed! |

£4.89 on ebay !!

omg - the amazon one look correct but what an insane rip-off
|
10/07/2022 23:43:19 |
thanks - the 240v is a c7 - will investigate the 12v one as this is most used by mr

In the photo there are two plug sockets, one 12v abd one 249v. I dont have a cable for either of them - put them safe somewhere! Is there a generic name for these plugs which would enable me to purchase new ones? Rhe 240v looks just like what we used to use on our casette player back in the dark ages. Thanks. I make steam boilers for a living and this will keep my drinks cool in the workshop so definately on topic! |

Just checking out the competition and saw this burner - nothing wrong with the burner but the white part on the end looks very much like plastic/derlin. https://www.hobbysteam.com/store/4-burner-only-120mm.html?fbclid=IwAR11W7uXh3ovgd4dpfHFmHb-g8uynmTDTDxcLXqEglVoC0iYbI2YCHFsgQU |
Thread: mini grinders |
20/05/2022 21:25:46 |
I use a Dremel every day at work making boilers - they tend to last about a year of low speed use before the speed controller fails and it goes open full speed - which doesnt work for me. Argos offer an extended warranty which serves me well. Never had a motor fail. I always keep a spare in stock, just in case. A superior tool which gets a lot more use is the Proxxon long neck mini grinder - I use the 2" abraisive sanding pads and it gets used a lot - I keep two as back ups. They regularly go pop but thats due to copper dust getting into the switch controller. Thankfully they are cheap and easy to fix. I have three of these in different parts of the workshop and wouldnt entertain working without one. |
