Thread: Help needed - Firing up my grandads steam boiler |
17/09/2023 15:27:03 |
Matt, Your latest picture solves the valve question, it's the main steam control valve for the engine, the tube on top of the valve body looks like it could be for engine lubricating oil as it seems to have a screw cap for filling. The first picture was a optical elusion that made me think the valve was a blower and fastened to the boiler. Enjoy your model. Mike.

Just had another look at the valve near the exhaust it could be a steam feed for the engine or engine exhaust, could do with a picture of that end of boiler for a better look. Mike. Edited By MichaelR on 17/09/2023 10:06:56 |

Looking at what the engine is driving I would think a working pressure of no more than 60 lbs will be needed, the valve near the exhaust could be a steam blower to create a draught for the burner gases and will only need to be open a crack you should be able to see a upturned pipe in the exhaust flue if it is a blower. Most traction engines (Three Shaft Engines) run link down to save wear and tear on the lifting link pins, on a Four Shaft Engine which the crank shaft runs backwards, in order to get the link down in forward gear the eccentric rods have to be crossed. Michael |

Thread: Bubbles in the floor - help! |
10/07/2023 16:16:24 |
I think the problem could be the sub floor that the latex has been applied too, something has leached out or still is leaching out to cause the blow holes, all you can do is fill the holes. MichaelR Edited By MichaelR on 10/07/2023 16:19:20 Edited By MichaelR on 10/07/2023 16:19:48 |
