Damascus Steel would get my vote. If you really want to get interesting try meteorite if you can find one. There are a few watches shown on Instagram made of it Good luck Adam |

Thread: Lorch LAS lathe |

Thanks Dave thank for the heads up I will leave it well alone turning the spindel by hand it all seems to run very smoothly. The Lathe has not been powered up for over ten years and the belt looks ok but with counter shaft and original belt the machine will be to deep for my bench |

Hi All Now the 918 is on its way to Ron's house I want to get on with sorting my new to me 1958 Lorch LAS. the first thing will be to strip the Head stock spindel for a good clean and the fit a new belt. So my question is Has anyone done this before and are there any particular pitfalls to look out for. I have the manual from lathes.co.uk which is a good start Thanks in advance Adam |

Hi Ron. There is a lot of information on the yarhoo 920 forum that I found very good. If you google 9x20 lathe or youtube there are hundreds of posts. Stephan gotteswinter on youtube did an amazing job on a very similar lathe about 3 years ago Best Adam |

Thank you Michael. The oil and bearings are on the way |
30/11/2018 14:50:36 |
Hello all I have just started to rebuild the head stock of my new old Ebay Boley & Leinen model 83 lathe. The bearings are shot and grumbling . They appear to be oil lubricated as there is a wicking system inside the head casting. So my questions are should I fit sealed bearings or the unshielded type as original. more important perhaps is what type of oil to use. thanks in advance

Hi I have a question regarding CBN and diamond grinding wheels. I have an acute sharpening system and have just ordered a CBN wheel for it. I see on youtube than no one seems to have any guards around the wheels. Is this safe? I also have some diamond wheels on the way from China these are the sort with an aluminium hub. Can I run these without guards? Eye protection is standard of course |

Thread: Joint Round Edge Needle Files |
31/08/2018 19:01:39 |
Hi there I use these when I am making watch case hinges. They are for making the half round groove that the hinge tubes are soldered into. In the watch and jewelry trade a hinge is often called a joint. The ones to have are the course cut as it a very fiddly job and time consuming. If you can find a video on Yotube of Martin Matthwes he shows how its done Best Adam |

Hi Roger Yes my head stock leans forward so now I have another thing to get used to. I have a full set of metric collets that came with the mill but would like some imperial ones so I can use some of my existing tooling. Does any one know if they are a standard model or specific to hobbymat. I see they were listed in the original catalogue |

Hi Lathejack I agree with your view its a fine machine and thanks for all your information. I have now down loaded the technical specifications manual from the yarhoo Prazi group forum and I hope this will give me all the information I knead to grease the milling head Thank you all for your help |

Thanks for the info. the mill is 25 years old so I was told so I think it would be a good idea to renew the grease in the head stock. If I remove the left hand cover only will that give me enough access to do the job? and do I remove the gear selector leavers first Thanks in advance for all your help Adam |
