Thought it may be an idea for members to post links to interesting engineering related videos.

I will start it off with this one that just came up on my Youtube feed. **LINK**

Nick

Edit if adding to this thread can I ask that the embeded link is used so people know what they are clicking on and can decide if they want to look or not. J

Great idea for a thread. Thanks for posting the loco video. Those were the days - when cloth cap were all the safety gear considered necessary whether turning, drilling, hot drop forging or pouring molten steel.

Jason,

Thanks for that very helpful edit; which has been an interesting 'proof of concept'

My 'original iPad' is one of the many devices that was recently alienated by YouTube.

Nick's link takes me to the 'not supported anymore' page ... yet your embedded video works fine.

Another interesting video in the series I have just watched...

HSE would never allow anyone in the casting shop, foundry, in fact all depts. to work these days without all the correct gear & procedures in place. Just shows what skills have been lost since the fifties.

Edit, Just for you Michaelwink 2

It's very easy to use the embed feature, so yes, please use it, it's not just Michael who benefits!

Links that just have a garbled number at the end not a title don't give people any confidence as to what may be at the other end.

Thanks, Jason and Thanks, Neil

... Good job it isn't just me that benefits, or it wouldn't be happening much wink

I'll second Muzzers vote for Stefan Gotteswinter's YouTube videos. A German enthusiast - Stefan speaks excellent English on the majority of his videos.

I only stumbled over his video collection quite recently and have been working my way through them when I get a spare moment (much better than much of the rubbish on TV these days)

Anyone with a shaper will enjoy watching his Gack HE-20 running. He seems to use it quite a bit (making toolholder dovetails, a straight edge). He has two clapper heads available for it - a traditional 'push' style one and a less common 'pull' head.

I was also interested in his use of a power scrapper (watch the second straight edge video) which seems to give him acceptable results with far less effort than the manual approach.

A very interesting set of videos from someone who has some very innovative and interesting ideas.

Regards,

IanT

Another vote for Stefan.

I too came across him recently. It's good to watch someone plan then calmly and carefully execute a project with the minimum of fuss.

Regards.

David.

Hello all, good evening!

My grandfather was a blacksmith and, among other things, he repaired hoes to neighboring farmers. The corners of hoes were worn and he "glued" them new corners with his hammer. He warmed the hoe until it was yellow hot and put on it a new metallic triangle, also yellow hot, which pounded until it was pasted. But, between the hoe and the new piece, he put a small portion of a hard material, gray, which included within a metalic wire mesh and had a reticulated surface.

Does anyone know and tell me, please, what material was that?

Thanks in advance
Dias Costa
