I beg to differ, that's rubbish, hogwash, I feel better now, I shall go and make a cup of tea. Tea, that's awful, you should drink coffee.

Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?

Hahaha Monty Python I think?

I have had some tremendous help from forum members and in all that time only one or two posts that were condescending. I think if I were going to state an opinion I would make it clear from the start that it was just my opinion and others may well disagree with it. Hopefully members will continue to offer advice, support, help and ideas and keep the forum's spirit alive and kicking.

I usually find most people to be helpful and polite. There is a small minority who do annoy me, one in particular seems to have a degree or two in supercilious comment. For some reason he hasn't joined in this thread!

Different time-zone perhaps?

Surely you can do better, Andrew, than lobbing mud from the sidelines while hiding behind the anonymity of the person you're referring to? Calculated deniability?

I think I know who it is wink The "Ignore member" selection was created to allow you to block those who annoy you. If you don't use it .....

I don't get it right every time!!!

BUT

  • I accept any information from someone else who has direct experience should be respected - but there may be another way as well
  • Any information from someone else with allied, but not exactly analogous experience may be of interest.
  • Comments that say 'it can't be done' or 'do it this way or you are wrong' should be treated with caution.
  • Contradicting someone from your experience is OK but knocking them isn't
  • Thread drift can often be interesting and fun

And finally anyone who hasn't exactly the same sense of humour as me should be taken out and shot now (That was another joke, by the way!)

Personally, I think Nick’s post sums me up - but perhaps some don’t think so.🙂 That’s just tough for them!

I often get it wrong - probably because I, at least, am prepared to offer my take on topics - and I am not a machinist. My advice which might include an analogy, to get the grey cells working, is worth exactly what you paid for it and often has a question mark immediately after. Perhaps too honest for some.

I work on the KISS principle. Keep It Simple, Sweetie (mustn’t use the other word on here). Most ‘apparent problems’ have a simple solution.

I've had a PM confirming I'm a baddy.

Good grief! Is nothing sacrosanct? I'd put you in the always worth reading category, even if I don't always agree with you. smile

You can stay on a bit longer, Mark. I still want to discuss whether drill bits should be called drills or drill bits. And whether scones should be pronounced scones or scones.

Got a bollocking at work after I was asked to make a Fourier transform routine to be called by another program for an undefined number of points. Knocked up a DFT routine in awk that would work for any number of points. Boss insisted that it should be a FFT coded in Fortran. That didn't work well when called with a non 2^n number of points!

Wars have been started over whether to put the jam on the scone before or after the clotted cream. Don't even start on whether to crimp the pasty on the side (Yuk) or the top...

Transmitter cooling systems sometimes have a sacrificial anode. This is often made from a lead/antimony alloy. It wears away, instead of the active components, and gets replaced - easier and cheaper.

Is this thread the sacrificial anode for the forum as a whole?

I ask this simply because I can't figure out the value of the thread - I know I don't have to read it, but I get curiouswink

Well I may be many things but wrong isn't one of them smile p.

I think a major cause of disagreement here is people not reading or understanding the OP. I have certainly fallen into this category more than once.

Although I would hope that I'm not too objectionable in my replies.

Regards.

David.

Well now, I've found this thread quite interesting, and funny, far, far better than what's on the box at the moment! Keep it up chaps.
