Apart from the Launceston Steam Railway, which is in town, I have yet to find anybody in the least bit interested in our hobby in the area. A meet up in Devon would be more than welcome.

It sounds odd, but being in Hertfordshire, and that most of the enthusiasts are around the midlands, I may as well not bother.

Don't get me wrong it's a good idea though.

Michael

like you dosnt seem to be anyone near me but maybe now is the time to find out where fellow engineers are

and meet up find out what equipment we have and help each other out I have four cnc machines and quite happy to machine parts for members if they are fairly local, also I would like help setting up my engines out of the four I have made I have only got one to run , only that I'm impatient and want to get onto the next project if I had local advice I would take more time to make them run

seems a good idea to have local groups who could meet up and swap imformation

just my thoughts now going to a my profile

I asked my question ten days ago.

As only two people have responded positively, I take it this means forum members don't have a great appetite for meeting each other face to face?

Neil

I didn't respond because I live in France.

Otherwise, I would love to meet other members.

I have very fond memories of Launceston Steam Railway,

but that was 30 years ago.

There may be more than you think, but not sure how to make contact. There are two local model railway clubs I believe and a third that meet in Sourton because they can't find a closer room. Often people in one related field have an interest in another but not sure how to meet up.
Another aspect is how far you can travel. Plymouth MES is only 25 miles away which for rural folk is about the norm for anything.

As to the initial question distance is a limiting factor just to meet a few people. If associated with one of the shows or a vendor's open day it gives a bit more attraction. We did try I think about 5 years ago at the Bristol show but confusion over time and location in the show meant only two of us turned up.

There are a couple of groups near me but to be honest I'm a bit intimidated by it all. I'll get a bit more experience first then poke my head above the parapet.

Hi Russell,

I live near Limoges, unfortunately.

frown That doesn't read right. I don't unfortunately live near Limoges. I mean it's unfortunately far away from Perpignan. laugh

However, I am often in Port Leucate, as a friend of mine keeps his boat there.

Next time I'm going down, I'll send you a message, and we could possibly meet up.

All the best,

Daniel

Hi Neil. A good idea, but would it be better if it was regionalised so that the whole country could partake in the meetings in their area. This would reduce the travel required and encourage more to participate,I think.

Frank

I have no objection to any forum members organising meet ups in their areas, but as I'm proposing to organise an event in my own time, it will have to be near to where I live.

It's a pity Rugely power station and its ME club are both history. We might have been able to wangle a tour aloing with the meet up/show and tell.

I'll have a word with some local clubs, see if one of them is happy to host us.

Hi Joe King 1,

Try looking up Southern Federation for a list of clubs then join one near you.
