Why do these companies seek to make a profit from P&P charges?frown

Profit ???????????

You have a bag or box, you have to pick the item and wrap it, stick a stamp on or process it thru the PO's PPI system.

We all know the PO works for sod all and staff do not expect to get paid, neither does any National Insurance payments.

Someone has to take it to the post office and queue up, or cough up £165 per year for a two day collection, 5 day collection is a lot more.

You are right, they must be running to the bank......................................

Even with postage that is still less than i paid for mine (£24.00). It has more features and is at least £7.00 less than any others i have seen advertised.

Cheers Derek.

Ah, wait till it gets delivered and all you get is the piece of paper saying, 'You can collect from the Royal mail Office after 24hrs ' so you end up collecting a paid parcel !

I even caught the postman walking up the path with the piece of card in his hand already made out, they are on a death wish!

Hi, buy five of them and give the other four to your friends for a Xmas present, and you won't have to pay any postage.

Clive, 24 hours before you can collect from the PO, I normally only have to wait 3 hours if I'm out.

Regards Nick.

Why do these companies seek to make a profit from P&P charges?frown

Because it's a nice little earner, with very little effort......almost a cottage industry. I much prefer those companies who include the P&P in the price of the item .....no nasty surprises that way and often no dearer.

I know people have to go to the post office, queue up etc etc but they must be on bankers' rates of pay judging by what I have been charged for P&P in the past.

It's easy to think that post and packing charges are rather high, but I sold some things on ebay recently and was quite surprised at the cost of postage. Once the package gets over 25mm thick the cost jumps a lot and then there is the time taken making up the parcel and taking it to the post office. It's easy to forget just how much postal prices have gone up in recent times.

Doug......I based my comment on the sometimes incredible discrepancy between the cost of the stamp on the packet plus a pound or so for a jiffy bag or whatever.

I recently ordered a Karcher window cleaner for SWAMBO's Xmas prezziesmiley It was ordered at 4.00pm and arrived the next morning at 9.27am - not bad service since it started in Devon and I live on a Scottish island and I was charged £4.00 for P&P! Our postal service is excellent and the post people here are very helpful and obliging and the high cost isn't their fault. I do however agree with an earlier comment. I get a bit annoyed when I spend some time fillng in various forms and it's only when I go to pay discover that the VAT and P&P are dearer than the article I wished to purchase. Keeping it on Model Engineering I used to get fantastic service from Millhill Supplies.

I bought some ME bits online not long ago. P&P Before the parts arrived I got a refund of excess postal charges. I was very impressed, just a shame I can't find the email or I would name the company.

Prices including P& P mentioned above so you don't know how much the P&P part is. A certain company at a recent show kept the same prices at the show indicating that they must have a deal for truely free postage.

Or you were being charged postage at the show without knowing it.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Hi All, I have one of these from a different company and have found a problem with battery life. It seems there is a small drain on the battery all the time and the only solution is to remove the battery after use--unless of course you use the tool frequently. I do not, its mainly used to set themilling M/C head. I have spoken to the suppliers and they told me about the drain feature.

Has anyone else found the same problem?

P & P I was involved in M/O for many years and belive me guys you are not being over charged and the companies are definatly not into profit -- quite the reverse in many cases they are subsidising the postage from their margin on the product.

I agree UK P&P charges by suppliers can be excessive and delivery times appalling. But what gets me is how cheap the actual postage should be, for instance Myself and an American did a joint BA/imperial conversion set for the Cowells lathe: I made and supplied the gears, he made the arbours and did the sums & geometry. The three gears I made were sent on five day guaranteed air delivery to the centre of USA was only £3.86 by Royal Mail disgust

I am waiting to see what he was charged the other way and how long it takes, last time it was delivered from USA in two days on an expected five days delivery timescaleteeth 2.

I have the same battery drain problem with the genuine Wixey level and do remove the coin cell battery after each use.

I say genuine, that probably means that the name Wixey is genuinesmile
