Not quite my favourite tool but one that I remember very well was a farmer's spanner. To most people that would have been a huge hammer!

I've got one in the workshop which the gradweans think is brilliant. I did buy it and it wasn't expensive. I'll try and take some photos and post them on here but they will be inside on the bench - it's gusting over 60knots here just now

Works fine for me and it is very easy to sharpen and to setup.

JasonB - as a moderator your post does not make sense. Who are you asking not to post? I do appreciate almost all of the posts on this forum.

I have no knowledge of their lathes but I did buy a Warco mill/drill 30 years ago (while on honeymoon) and it has been worked hard and behaved perfectly ever since. I did go to a ME Exhibition and noticed that they had changed the small front cover which had pulley speeds on it and I mentioned that to the salesman and it arrived before I got home. Excellent machine and excellent service.

Sri I can't help but I was about to post a similar question. I have a sports trophy, a Curling Kettle, which was electroplated but it's now past it's best. Does anyone know of a company who do EPNS at an economic rate? tia

Mo machines today - just muscles! If the weather forecast is correct my workshop could be damp It's about 50 metres from high tide and there are no protective walls in the way. Everything crossed for this one.

I actively dislike the new layout and if it is continued I will unsubscribe but I will give many thanks to all of the wonderful postings which I have greatly enjoyed and learnt from. Thanks gals and guys.

Despite being a physical wreck with seriously deteriorating eyesight I got back into the workshop today and turned a wee bit of brass. Bliss - the world is a much better place!

If you can catch a kipper you must be the best fisherman the world has ever known. In my world kippers are smoked and that is very difficult in the sea.

I am past my sell by date but my kids have all told me, not asked, to keep everything in the workshop and if that is their request I will happily do so. I have had a great deal of fun and satisfaction from the workshop and if they get anything like as much I will be very happy to let them do so.

The old Millhill Supplies was the best supplier I ever dealt with at either trade or private level. I could phone an order in the afternoon and receive it the next morning. Not bad for a Scottish island!

My workshop, an old byre, is about 100 square metres and from about 2.5 to 5 metres high. I don't need advice on how to use only how to fill it - economically! And the yard outside has to be kept clear for swambo's car, and the weans car and motorbike. Life is tough?

It would be of greater interest if members posting on this threas told us where they lived. I am on the Bicycle Island - the Island of Greater Cumbrae in the middle of the River Clyde due West of Glasgow.

I regret that some members cannot get things to work the way that thay want. I have not had any problems at all other than trying to read and understand some postings where the poster cannot spell or use grammatically correct English. Thanks Diane and staff for an excellent service.

I have found that the relatively local Metal Supermarket have an offcut bin which they are happy to dispose of at very economic rates. Trouble for me is that it's about 26 miles and a ferry crossing away but it does give SWAMBO the opporchancity to buy another supermarket

I watched F1 qualifying and then did a few hours in the local museum BUT I then came home and watched the FA Cup Final and cheered on Wigan. Not bad for a geriatric Scotsman but I always support the wee team. I'll try to get back into the workshop tomorrow after F1.

I thought/hope that the site is about Model Engineering in general. I have no great preference since I do not subscribe to either magazine but over the last 50 odd years I have built a Minnie and quite a lot of atationary engines but I have also built, and enjoyed doing so equally, a great many tools. Simple answer is do what you enjoy doing and buy the magazine which suiys you best.
