Just a line to let you all know that my Father-in-Law, The Merry Miller AKA Len P. sadly passed away, very unexpectedly this January. I know he was an avid follower of these forums, and loved to chat with many.

Afternoon Neil,

Is there any chance that the issue dates for MEW can be shown on the Forum front page.

For the first time I can remember the issue date for MEW 246 does not appear inside the latest MEW (245) .

DjVU is a reader only that you can download from the net.

I use it for looking at files, mainly family tree census files that have been downloaded and can only be read using DjVU.

Below you will see some pics of the rear toolpost that fits on to the extended cross slide of my Myford ML7-R

It uses the standard Myford boat tool that you can adjust to the centre height without much/any trouble.

If you can get hold of one of these all power to your elbow.

I have a variable speed pulley fitted to my Axminster wood turning lathe.

I think the lathe is the old M950.

Very effective it is too, the variable speed that is.

I now have had a response from the Ebay supplier of my Tacho display.

They cannot send a replacement as they are having trouble with their supplier.

They have offered to refund me the purchase price of £6.99 and I have accepted.

Now to search for another one.

Not a glimmer from the display when just hooked up to the PSU

Trying to contact the original seller in China through Ebay is a mammoth task so I've given up on that one.

What I'm going to do is make a calibrated dial using a laser tacho/rev counter and attach that to the mill control unit.

I'll try again later to see if he will replace it without me posting the duff one back to him, it's just making contact is the problem.

Mine was connected as John's. just went out to double check and confirmed it.

Still no display, I now assume that the display is duff.

It's too much bother to send it back.

I too purchased one of these Tacho's and it came with no wiring info.

After pressing the vendor eventually received this comprehensive diagram.

Thinking that this was less than useless I pressed them again and received the next bit of info as under.

I thought now this is much better and decided to take up a course as a Chinese interpreter before pressing them again.

I subsequently received the diagram as under together with a pleading request from the vendor to leave them "positive feedback"

Well this enabled me to wire up in a fashion after interpreting what I thought they meant and guess what, it didn't work.

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated apart from dumping it !!!

Another word of advice.

Before you or any helper with you attempt any manual lifting or manipulation make sure that you clean off any oil that may be lurking on the surfaces in the zone of lifting.

I did not and when my son-in-law and I went to lift my Myford into the garage/workshop, my son-in-law (who could lift the side of a house) nearly lost it holding the headstock end because I hadn't cleaned the oil from it.

Just beware!!

I've been using Manista for many years.

My son-in-law on a recent visit said to me "what are you using that stuff for"

Here's what I use at home,

Squirt some washing up liquid on the palm of your hand, add a little salt from the salt hopoer in the kitchen and rub.

It worked briliantly.

I brought home my 4" engineers vice on the back of my motorbike ( for the enthusiasts, a Francis Barnett 225cc Cruiser) back in 1962 when I was working at Ozalid in Loughton, Essex.

It was and still is a Woden 190/TA with quick release.

It say's on the side "Steel" as opposed to I suppose to "Cast iron"

I recently dumped the magnetic protective jaw protectors and fitted the version that you have missed i.e fibre and bent tin plate (or bent zinc plated steel) As you are now aware are readily available from the E-something or other website.

I recently removed that from my bench and fitted an Eclipse 4" swivel vice, beautiful vice but I think I will try to refit the Woden because I miss it !!! and I will have room once I remove the Arbour Press.

Have a look at the range of 62GB connectors from Amphenol.

I used to use this series on military equipment in the '70s '80s and '90s.

Farnell do some of the range but there are also others who may do!

I would always taught to remember "torque" as a "pound" at one "foot" as if using a force of one pound at the end of a lever one foot long. not a "foot at one pound" or ft-lb.

thus "pound-feet" is lb-ft is "Torque"

Just a word of warning for you and all others who use a swivel chair with castors in the workshop, just keep it as a chair for the desk.

I had one in my workshop for a while until one day I went to sit on it whilst carrying a heavy load in both hands, and it just shot away from under me, not having a free hand to grab it. It put the fear of -------- into me and I resolved not to have one in my workshop again, I could have caused myself a serious injury if it hadn't been for my lightning reactions

I now have a stool with a height adjustable seat and three sturdy legs, no castors!
