Probably it will just go straight through, though it does look like an error.
I was going to try it out on the M2 ones, the M3 are normal price, and I've just bought some M4 Presto ones off Tony5Cats on ebay.
Unfortunately the postage is a tenner, so not cost effective even at that price.

Looks like a entry error but knowing Farnell they will honour it if you place an order. If you can make up a big enough order postage is free .

Selected all three sets of M2,M3 and M4, clicked on basket and total charge came to £21.30 which included £9.95 handling charge and £3.55 Vat. Didn't buy.

Decimal place error in the pricing. They will honour it, the online system won't even notice.

I'd lay odds that all the big "thousands of items in the catalogue" firms have at least a couple of similar lurking somewhere in the list. When you stop to think creating these catalogues is a major, major undertaking.

As Dennis found you have to watch the handling charge when dealing with CPC Farnell for small quantities. Tends to turn a stonking deal into "meh, average".

As I was reminded the other day when buying an old style printer cable. At £11 it wasn't worth messing around searching t'net to save a couple of £. Especially as it was for a mate, not me, so I'll gte paid.

Even so its rare to see anything that doesn't work out at least reasonable.

As Robert says the trick is to pad out the order up to the free shipping limit, £20 I think.

Lets face it a "Maybe, I might use it, possibly item." is still more for your money than postage charges. Even if it does sit for 20 years before you use it or, as with my last effort, get traded away for something I did need.

Best one I had from them ,was a box of 24 LED bulbs with PIR sensors for less than the price of 3 from everywhere else. I needed 2!

Hi Clive, CPC is free shipping with an order over £20.00 before VAT is added, this probably for UK mainland addresses.

Regards Nick.

Made in China?

Having struggled with typical retail bought taps in my pre machine tool days... i'd say buy the best quality taps you can afford.

With a hobby you have to skimp somewhere, but i won't skimp on drill bits or taps....I can't exactly afford Dormerwink, but they're reasonably decent quality.

Try a branded spiral point tap, you'll not look back.

Farnell used to list Dilithium crystals in the online catalog (back when the still gave you a paper catalog). They never had stock though.
Scotty was disappointed.

I once ordered a 2 channel 500 MHz Lrcroy 'scope for work. They sent a 4 channel 1 GHz model. I told them and the said "oh just keep it" ! If I could have afforded the 500MHz model I'd have bought one myself and swapped with the one the sent work and got myself a 1GHz 4 channel.

For those who don't know https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilithium_(Star_Trek)
The entry was removed several years ago.

Well a couple of weeks on and I was placing an order with Farnell for electronic parts. The taps are still listed at the same price so I added all three sets of M2, M3 and M4.
They arrived today. Not Draper, but perfectly good taps. and cheap as I was buying enough other parts for free shipping.

I would suggest that a spiral flute tap would be the best buy for all threading. Swarf comes out of the hole towards you, much better than a spiral point if the hole is blind.

There is one item in the Farnell catalogue, stumbled on it by mistake around seven years ago, probably bought in the 1000’s since, regularly restocked and still priced at around £5…which is just 25% of the very best wholesale price. smiley

I would hazard a guess someone sells this item on eBay for a healthy markup.

It's always worth looking at CPC. CPC often has a lower minimum order quantity and the price per unit is sometimes cheaper. In the past, it's paid to split an order beyween Farnell and CPC!

Note: Farnell prices reflect being able to access traceability/QA certificates etc. required for critical applications etc. which are not required for domestic/hobby use.

A coincidence? Today I am waiting for a delivery from Farnell. Just by chance while googling yesterday morning I noticed Farnell had an item for sale at a very competitive 90% off. Which immediately got the nod from the boss.

Before bed I looked to see if it had been any update on the order, there had not but I noticed the item was now marked as no longer a stock item. I fully expected today the order would have been cancelled but to my surprise, it is on its way.

It looks like Farnell has had some decimal point issues, and it looks like they will honour the orders which is a surprise as they don't have to.

Someone at Farnell must have big britches to make the decision to put customer satisfaction over profit.

I live about 10 minutes drive from CPC so tend to buy from there. As Neil said they are part of Farnell and sell a lot of the same items.

I know CPC will sometimes reduce items considerably. They seem to do this with items they are discontinuing when they only have a few left. They call it ‘Bargain Corner’. I must admit I have bought a few things because they might come in handy one day which have never been used!

Well my order arrived, very quickly!

I had a few of the tap sets, a large quantity of left hand drills (very very cheap) and various other bits and bobs.

Every single order line has the message that once stock is gone they won't be restocked.

Overall I could not be happier with my purchases.

Update on this one.

A mate came round and was admiring some of the tools I had from Farnell, he just could not believe the quality of a set of mini pliers that were £1.79 for a set of 5! I did get quite a haul of tools including a few sets of the cheap taps and a good quantity of left hand drills (some of which were only 2p each!).

Parting words were, "I'll have a look later"

Had a phone call later from him, the prices have all increased by 4 to 10 times on the items I purchased!

Thank you Michael for the heads up on this one.

Jim

Thanks for the feedback, Jim … Glad you got some bargains

… I may regret not purchasing a load of those taps, but they were not the size I was looking-for at the time.
