No, but have you seen all the fluff that gets stuck to them! Does the lanolin stay oily/waxy? as that may not be ideal inside where the item may collect dust, the metal guard dries so you don't get that issue. |

![]() 327 forum posts 20 photos | Might be worth trying Owatrol or Ambersil. Ambersil is a great rust preventer but leaves a rather dull and slightly tacky finish. Owatrol leaves a very thin film but dries to a reasonably hard finish and can be overpainted. |

If bare metal is preferred and the surface finish has been cleaned up to the point that it's acceptable, then get the parts nickel plated (not chrome). That will look good and will last longer than a varnish. |

851 forum posts 206 photos | I was wondering about the merits of nickel plating the bright metal work on my model corliss engine, has anyone tried the DIY kits that are available with any success, and consistency of results ? Phil |

![]() 1376 forum posts 10 photos | Not tried any home kits but have used this company a lot. They can plate 3D prints in copper (which strengthens them considerably) and then nickel giving a perfect chrome appearance as well as the more usual metal items. http://morganicmetalsolutions.com
