Thread: Guy Lautard - spherical turning
04/10/2023 12:26:41

Thanks to all for your replies. I am always wary of free downloads that aren’t from the original author particularly given Guy is updating his work over a period of time for sale. Nonetheless most grateful for responses and Bernard has pm’d me separately.

This book (Tables and Instructions for Ball and Radius Generation) is unavailable at Amazon and abebooks second hand site and Guy’s website shows yet to be updated and rereleased. Does anyone know where one might be available for loan - uk library’s also show as not available to loan.

Thread: A TurboCAD Tool-bar and Alibre Short-Cut Queries
24/09/2023 19:29:30

I run TC 2016 and what you describe happens occasionally to me too. The way to restore your previous settings is Use the tools drop down menu and select customise. Then select (click) load from and it should return you to the format contained in either the std template as saved and amended by you or any other you care to select. Note this also dictates where the template is saved to should you wish to amend and add any addl elements. Works in 2016 version.

Thread: Warco WM250V : Tray Cleaning Questions

For cleaning the tray out I just use a shower squeegee silicone blade thingy - really effective and cheap to replace every so often.

Thread: Bubbles in the floor - help!

Had a similar problem with a latex floor some years ago and resolved using arditex feather finish. Then coated with two part epoxy floor paint from Watco. Not sure how hardness would compare.

Thread: TurboCAD Query: Maintaining Rendering Acrss File-types?
18/04/2023 17:47:53

This was drawn using the excellent Don Cheke tutorials. I purchased a number and they lead you step by keystroke step to draw the 3d element. The caboose pictured is started by drawing the rails and then building up the drawing to finally render to achieve the picture. I also completed the electric motor tutorial which starts at the shaft and works outwards. Each tutorial providing insights into the 3d drawing process, the tools and how to address various drawing challenges. I note the Don Cheke website is down unfortunately. I still have the purchased sizeable pdfs which lead you through the process. I can’t produce what is displayed on my own but by completing the tutorials I greatly improved my understanding.

Thread: What did you do today? 2023
24/03/2023 16:04:18

Not model engineering related but worthy of mention I believe. This week my epson printer XP760, a few years old and still giving good service, gave an error that the waste ink pad was full. That was it, no ability to clear and on and off merely reported the same error with touch screen locked. Having just bought inks I was a bit miffed as only recourse was to buy another printer that would inevitably use different inks. A quick google I came across octoink (no connection) who provide the instructions and new waste pads along with a utility and software key to reset the counter. Within 45 mins printer back up and running. Worthy of note.

Thread: Karl Bengs hit n’ miss engine
23/01/2023 17:34:35

Thanks to all for responding - might just test gorillas strength.

Thanks Jason - I don’t have soft jaws and therefore would be holding with a bit of protective packing in the jaws on about 2mm to give 0.5mm clearance for machining. The flange and dome - I was worried this wouldn’t be sufficient to take the gentle cuts necessary.

23/01/2023 15:51:29

I have to machine the dome on one half of the aluminium stock - the kit does not give you a lot to play with. Having machined the recess on one side I now need to machine the dome and create the flange 2.5 mm thick. My plan is to machine a piece of brass to fit the 7mm and 24mm diameter and loctite in place. I have already created the offsets and steps to create the dome profile prior to finishing with a file. Q. Will this work and what grade loctite given that I need to take overall dome dimension down to 30 before starting the dome procedure.

Thread: Warco 290v backplate
08/01/2023 13:04:33

Thanks Stuart - it is the spindle fixture element as Jason has stated that I am interested in. Thank you Jason for your response and detail. I had hoped they would be the same but they aren’t having just taken some quick measurements. The EN3 idea is one to ponder - more workshop time required. Thanks for all the responses.

Most grateful

07/01/2023 20:19:22

It is the stud and nut type and therefore suspect from your details that the hole spacing and bore will be different. Many thanks.

07/01/2023 19:45:56

I have a warco 290 and need to fit a Vertex 4 jaw chuck 125mm. Does anyone know if a 280 backplate as sold on warco website at 125mm would fit the spindle of the 290? I don’t really want to machine down the 290 backplate from 160 to 125 if the 280 125mm backplate fits leaving only the front face register for the chuck left to machine.

Thread: Inserts

Will CCGT 030102 inserts not work? Just a thought.

Tony.

Tony unfortunately they need to be the L variant. Jenny has R and we tried a few to see if they would fit - they don’t. It looks like I have to buy 10 and try and sell on half or more or keep looking for a needle in a haystack.

11/12/2022 08:04:32

Thanks Jason - that too has a min order of 10 unfortunately- it appears that for these inserts 10 is min. Jenny had a good luck for through her stock but she only had R and they don’t fit having tried some at Midlands show. I even contacted apt to see if they would split but inevitably answer was no.

11/12/2022 05:56:14

I have a small boring bar that takes small CCGT 030102 L inserts. The L is important as it is a right hand bar from APT and they only take L inserts. APT sell inserts but only in packs of 10 like everywhere else I have found. Jenny at JB Tools only has R variant. Anyone know of a source of these inserts in a lower quantity? I only need a couple. I can do the internal small taper job a different way but currently have a boring bar with no inserts,

Thread: What to do with a sticky (as in toffee) portable radio
30/09/2022 12:30:11

Other than happy long term user try sticky stuff remover from Lakeland no connection. It works to remove stickers from books or more persistent sticky stuff without damaging but do try rest area first. It has a pleasant orange smell upon which it is based I believe. Also wd40 well renowned for also being effective.

Thread: How to refurbish a bench vice?
12/08/2022 20:44:04

Resurrecting an old thread rather than start a new on similar subject. I am refurbishing two record vices no1 and no2. I have found paragon paints do the record blue vice colour (known as roundel blue) but it comes in a number of finishes, gloss, semigloss, Matt or satin. Does anyone know which finish replicates the closest to the original?

Many thanks Jason didn’t spot that above - will give it a try.
