25 forum posts 2 photos | Hello - A friend of mine recently lugged a pile of old machinery to his home shop from the place where he works that they were going to dispose of. I have been gifted this little gem as a result. It's some sort of attachment that was part of a larger machine and looks like a tiny little tool and cutter grinder. Knowing the place this piece came from, I am almost positive it's a UK manufactured item from back in the 60s so I figured I'd pop up a question and a link to a little video to see if someone might be able to put me onto a manual, or some form of documentation for it as I'd like to learn a little more about it. It's about 100km away from me and I have not actually touched it yet, but hey, for $0.00 I'll be taking it ! Here's a little video my pal sent me and I tossed onto my dropbox - hope it works - www.dropbox.com/s/f6xuk6a8j42akqj/Grinder.MOV?dl=0 Cheers from chilly Canada, Lewis

25 forum posts 2 photos | Ha - well he literally filled a 15,000 pound float trailer - his buddy has a monster tractor trailer - and he still had to leave some behind apparently. He's kicking himself he never salvaged the rest of this machine so unfortunately we know nothing at the moment. It might be a treasure hunt for information. I figured if anyone would know it would be some of you lads across the pond. I'll be getting it home in the coming weeks. I have to arrange delivery under the cover of darkness as if my wife sees any more "filthy equipment" coming up the driveway, she will likely murder me in my sleep.... Now don't laugh at me but the thought of slapping some little stepper motors on it and CNCing the thing had crossed my mind. I have seen very little in the way of cnc conversions of surface grinding machines though.... Just a random thought. Worst case it will do nicely to grind up some HSS tool bits for my litle Unimat ! Will post more and get a few pics in due course.... Thanks for the replies ! Lewis

Andrew Johnston: Don't you have to be registered with Dropbox? I thought I was, as I have used it in the past. But my rule is if software doesn't work first time I'm not going to waste time trying to make it work. There are more interesting things to do. Andrew |

Andrew Andrew, if you are registered with Drobox you only have to sign in to download the clip. Worked perfectly for me. I have no idea of the make of the grinder either. regards |

7517 forum posts 20 photos | I have decided it is not a surface grinder as we might expect. More like a cutter grinder, without the added tool holder. Only one slot on the bed and the lever only operates the bed to part-way past the grinding wheel leads me to that conclusion, among a couple of others. |

Surely if it was a tool and cutter grinder the wheel head would not be fixed and adjustable in various directions and also be fitted with a cup wheel. Martin P |

Pity the fixtures fetch such high prices on ebay or I might be tempted. Rik Rik - Do you remember the name of the machine or any details that I might use to dig up some more information on it? This is just an attachment from a larger machine that has long since been scrapped unfortunately. However, I am wondering if I might be able to put it to some productive use in my shop and would like to learn a little bit more about it. It seems it might function as a very tiny surface grinder but I am not sure how much control one has over the elevation of the table. Thanks for all the comments and postings everyone ! We'll get to the bottom of the mystery eventually..... |
