Thread: Approximate cost of filament?
02/10/2023 18:04:36

Creality Hyper PLA is about £21 from Amazon for a 1KG reel. Some of it is a lot more expensive like the multicolour stuff.

Colin,

The spindle bearings should be greased. A photo of the nipples would help.

Thread: Tom Lipton Bender
03/09/2023 17:30:16

Today I started on something I could have done with a while ago, a rod and tube bender. I have the plans for Tom Liptons version so decided to get it started.

The pivot is still way under size as I plan to skim the table again then bore it to fit the bearing on the mill.

Not entirely sure my TIG is getting any better.

The fence in the background is complete to the drawings but I was thinking of cutting a vee along the front edge then making a clamp to hold material in the vee before bending. I did see this idea somewhere on Youtube but cant remember where.

Ady1, thanks for posting the info.

Thanks Jason that's made my mind up. I'll have a go at it.

That's tempting. I'm starting to remember why I didn't get very far with Fusion 360 last time I tried it.

Thread: Printer tool holder

Thanks Martin, some nice parts there. Trying to get used to Fusion 360 again is a pain. I havent used it for years and have forgotten nearly all of it, Thankfully Youtube is there to fill in the gaps.

I thought I saw a manual on this forum a while ago.

Thread: Printer tool holder

Just finished off a 9 hour 40 minute print job for a tool holder. It measures 175mm by 125mm and is 60mm high at max height. Printed with standard PLA. I`ve added some extra slots and holes for some more sutff in future just in case.

Having put the 3d printer to use I now have some tool holders to tidy up the lathe tool holder storage issue.

Next job is to make some holders for hanging MT tooling off of the front of the extrusion.

Thread: Creality K1
03/08/2023 19:58:55

So the K1 arrived. Unboxed it removed packing and screws and went for a self test. It failed the first one with an internal error E002. Then it locked up after a rest. So power off for 20 mins while I had tea and tried again. Finished the self test ok but took around 15 minutes. Then printed the boat benchy. That printer is insanely fast. I think I will need to fit some ballast to the table it sits on.

01/08/2023 20:21:14

Thanks Jimmy. I have arranged a return of mine, thankfully Amazon has a decent returns system, and ordered the K1.

Should arrive Thursday, hopefully when someone is home, and I'll be printing again by the weekend.

01/08/2023 17:57:14

How are you getting on with the K1? What's the print quality and machine build quality like?

I think I picked the wrong printer so may be looking to change mine already. Having issues with the extruder and bed temps staying where they were set. Extruder cooling fans started squealing already.

I just got myself an Elegoo Neptune 3 pro. Never had a 3D printer before so this seemed a good starter one. Printing speed isnt fast but quality seems good.

Currently making some tool holders to tidy up the lathe a bit. Many thanks to the person who uploaded the file for use. Next thing is to get myself a copy of Fusion 360 and start learning.

Cura was a bit of a pain to setup but ended up copying some info from a post so I will see if it sorts out the issues I had.

Thread: Safety gloves

Do not wear any gloves that can pull you into the machine if they get caught on anything. The only gloves I wear are nitrile ones which rip easily.

Thread: P M Research No 4
13/07/2023 18:02:39

Thanks Jason.

I assembled it as per the drawings and it was straight after assembly but isnt now. Its not out by much so maybe when I redo the flywheel I might attempt to straighten it out.

Just noticed the spelling mistake in the thread title, can this be fixed?

12/07/2023 21:01:30

Hi all,

Ive finally managed to get my PM Research No 4 nearing completion and running on air.

Video here https://youtu.be/e2f2Lar4r8M

I still have drip feed oilers to make for the stand, probably similar to the other 2 and was also thinking about a lid for them.

This was definitely a challenge to machine especially the stand. I will probably put the flywheel back on the lathe and redo it as I`m not happy with the finish and see about improving it. There is also a bit of wobble on the fly wheel due to the crank not being perfect but I will blame it on it being in 5 pieces and a pain to get true.

Noel,

some copiers can scan and convert the output to a pdf which you can email.

06/07/2023 22:43:28

Noel,

Do you have instructions for the radius fixture?

Thread: Email woes

UK2 for me as well.

I`ve also used one of the email addresses I have as a sort of throw away one. Anything I think I might get spammed from uses that address and trusted sites get a different one.
