Vice clamp downs

Couldn't sleep this morning ,so was out in the shed a 4 o clock .How may of you guys on here ever do the same .

Anyways decided to make a couple of clamp down for my new vice .Next thing on my shopping list is a power hacksaw ,fed up of cutting material with the grinder . Interesting little project making the clamps ,did my first bit of plunge milling with a flute for the socket headed bolts ,another thing on my to-do list is make better dial wheels for the Centec and for the topslide on the Fortis ,no doubt I'll be picking your brains on how to's on that .

Would appreciate if someone could tell how to get the photos the right way up .

Why do people take pictures in portrait mode when every other device is landscape?!

Funny how it's only on here it happens with me ??? Uploaded same photo on FB and another forum without any issues .... Does that help you !!

Sean, did you take the photo's on a mobile phone? I'm no expert on digital wizardry but learnt recently the phone makers have introduced some trickery in the background image info that interacts the device to locate in certain positions.

The only way around it is to load the photos onto a computer then open them in a photo program -photoshop etc and save them again to a new file then it gets rid of the info implanted by the phone camera -- seems to work for me

It is to do with the EXIF information saved with the image. Mobile phones dont deal with the orientation setting very well. More info ***HERE*** It's not something I understand but I just feed all my images through PaintShop Pro before I upload anything.

Can't help with the picture bit, seams to make no odds how ever I take pictures!!!

There are a number of EXIF editing apps for phones that enable you to edit the EXIF data or even remove it to prvent that problem.

Digital cameras have muddled notions about orientation and so does the software used to display photographs. It's not a happy mixture.

The forum doesn't allow users to correct the rotation of an image once it's been uploaded.

The only sure way of forcing a digital photo to be the right way up (satisfactory to a human viewer), is to rotate it before uploading with something like GIMP or Photoshop. Most junior photo-editors will do the job too, especially if they are up-to-date. Inside the photograph there are a number of hints as to it's orientation that can disagree; photo editors set them consistently leaving no possibility of confusion at the display end.

Some years back I worked the night shift for around 6 months and in order not to keep upsetting my 'bio' clock one my days off I worked in my shed through the night and slept in the day just the same as my working pattern.

I can honestly say I have never done that. Ever.

I have stayed up that late in the shed when working on a motorbike to get it ready to ride on the weekend etc. But getting out of bed to go to the shed at that time, never.

Though by no means is it the only, free image manipulation s/ware but "IrfanView" is superb IMHO.
Image rotation is easy ("Save to same folder" and "Overwrite"). D/load the plugins and you'll a suprisingly versatile, zero cost prog. It's no Photoshop but can achieve much.

My wife has problems sleeping, it’s not unusual for me to be woken at 4.00 am with the smell of freshly baked cakes wafting up from the kitchen, she says she is at her most creative when she has problems sleeping. I don’t dissuade her from her nocturnal activities, it has its benefits!

I use Win10 as most do these days, I use the 'Photo gallery' app that comes with W10... if you click on the pic you want to rotate it brings up a new window with a box called 'Edit, organize, share in the top left corner, click this it will open the pic in 'Photo gallery', at the bottom right of the window there are icons for 'rotate left- right, click to suit then do same to other pic, it will auto save in Gallery. you can then upload to your album with pic being the correct orientation...

The question remains, why shoot pictures in portrait mode? Tablets, laptops, computer monitors, TV’s etc are all Landscape. If it had been shot in landscape it would display in landscape, at least my iPhone does without resort to any software. Operator error.

A portrait is not a portrait if in landscape orientation!

A picture of a tall building? Mountain? My pictures of Polly might show you what I mean.

It's all to do with artistic interpretation but I do accept that a lot of engineering folk have no artistic inclination.

I have a wife who is constantly taking pictures with her mobile. Up-side-down! Microsoft Office picture editor is her friend.......
