Everything is done for a camera now.

Somebody would be filming it. Pathetic.

Society is broken.

What society ...... I'm glad I've had a good life up till now that's for sure . The future is going in a bad place and direction ....

Not exactly home workshop equipment but an interesting insight in to how the 300 mm high block was made (out of 20 mm plate), welded and skimmed.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roMzviZ4p6I

That's a heck of a parting off tool!

Part II (the installation) to follow soon, I believe.

Kurt has some wonderful older machines that will soon be a regular part of his channel .He won't please the purists but his end results are what matter . The KW facing borer did a fine job of facing the riser .

Just for the sake of my sanity, can you clarify whether your lathe has power cross-feed or not? If it has, it's not a Model C, so that may indicate the bed is not original (or the saddle/carriage/leadscrew assembly isn't, depending how you look at it).

Rob

Hi Rob,

my lathe is a Boxford model CUD ,I believe this screw is not original to my lathe, but it fits and works none the less. Having it gives me options I believe ...wink

I'll insert a photo of my cross feed screw. I have sourced a couple of parts, the casting that houses the outer thrust bearing washers and supports the hand wheel along with a micrometer dial which is imperial which I might be able to work with until I source a metric one . I'm toying with making a hand/thumb wheel . Going by what I've read this is not the standard cross feed screw. Parts seem quite hard to find . Anyone have a set of thrust washer bearings for this smiley

AAAAAAAAgh All those dimensions should be nice round figure inch fractions. surprise

Like I said in the last thread you don't really want the replacement parts you want better parts. Did the new casting have provision for the thrust bearings we talked about?

You haven't said exactly where you made the repair but as I was thinking about reworking to my own one I plan on locktite-ing an oversize bit of shaft to replace the outer half inch where the ball handle goes and turning it down while holding the shaft in a collet to make it reasonably concentric. As the collet only grips the last 1/4 inch I would support the far end of the job with a little plastic bush deep down the spindle bore.

Dang it ,in my haste I forgot I already had a thread . I apologise smiley

Thread: 75mm x 2000mm Belt Linisher Build Thread
07/11/2021 16:15:02
Posted by Martin King 2 on 12/06/2021 17:22:08:

Hi All,

Well here goes!

I have a need for a fairly powerful belt linisher and they are very expensive. There are loads of different build threads available on the 'Net and YouTube. I looked through and came across this one by Phil Vandelay in Germany. It seemed a well engineered project that allowed horizontal and vertical use, probably a bit over engineered truth be told.

Link to first video here:

https://youtu.be/dvvOFyb6vXA

I'm a bit late ,I watched this series yesterday on YT awesome build

After looking at the series of three videos several times and realizing that there was no way that I could cut the very thick 15mm materials with what I have available i decided to get the larger parts water jet cut. The large drive pulley would also be too large for my Myford so I decided to get that machined also.

I coughed up the dosh for the plans and was delighted to see how comprehensive they were.

I pick up the water jetted parts on Monday morning so will start the project when a few more bits including the motor have been sourced.

Here are the parts awaiting pick up:

I will try and remember to take photos as I (slowly) progress, quite looking forward to this as it will stretch my skills to the limit!

Cheers, Martin

I recently bought a run down Boxford lathe knowing it needed some TLC 9 (I like a challenge) . I have it up and running bar the cross slide feed screw ,which was bent on the outer end (handwheel side of things ),I've managed to source the little casting on the front of the cross slide which was broken . the hand/thumb wheel was absent too . I've tried to straighten the screw which was not very successful ,so I tried to do a dowel and pin repair which turned out ok but I'm just not 100% happy with .

These parts are hard to come by and I appreciate that, I just wondered would anyone on here have any pointers where I may source the two parts ? the hand/thumb wheel ,micrometer dial

This is the leadscrew

Hi Sean you can try **LINK** there is a gentleman called Mark Lord on there who sells spares for Boxford lathes via a site called simplylathes.co.uk, you could contact him as he may well have the parts that you need.

Sean, I think it's difficult to make out metric or imperial machines from the serial number. AFAIK, metric Boxfords have the tailstock spindle graduated in metric units.( My imperial machine is in inches). The feed dials have 0.02mm graduations. The lead screw is 3mm pitch.

Thanks Clive

A good source of info on Boxford is on the "lathes UK" website, they may have parts lists also.

Thankyou

Hi

It's been a while since I've been on here ,asking for some help and information .Today I bought this lathe knowing it had a couple of issues but I paid a good price for it. The first and main issue is the cross feed hand wheel is MIA the feed screw is bent just before it goes into the cross slide ,the casting that bolts onto the face of the cross slide where the feed screw and handwheel are supported is missing . Basically I need the whole cross feed screw assembly . I may manage to straighten the outer part of the feed screw I'm not sure . The serial number at the tailstock end is ...CUD--ll--26640, Is this lathe metric or imperial . I'm maybe not making any sense but I'm sure somebody will correct me.

Is there a good source for parts for this lathe or is it a case of just hunting them down .

Reason I'm so unprepared on this lathe is that my wife sprung it on me today ,she knew I was watching it so she sent a lowball offer which was accepted .
