...and they're late, spent a couple of hours waiting but no show yet.

They must still be waiting for the cartons of Marlboro and the bottles of Glenfiddich to arrive

We probbly won't ever get to see her again either, the next low tide is around midnight, darn

Said in the paper the Russki's are very interested in the ship! no doubt if they leave on the night low tide the Russki's cannot get a picture! I wonder where they got all the Matelot's from? I understand that they only have about 5 jets here so far?

She floated out of the dock earlier this afternoon on the (almost) high tide - I watched some of the process live on Shipfinder. It'll need the low tide tonight to fit under the Forth bridges.

I like the scaffold fence to stop the planes falling off the ramp

I thought the Ark Royal was to be the last British aircraft carrier! Sounds like the RN is like our navy, not enough personel to crew it's ships.

If the RN goes the way of the Merchant Marine cutbacks then the crew will double up on jobs

Cooks will operate the anti-aircraft defence while engine room POs fly the F35s

It's good to have strong and stable armed forces.

If it ever goes to war I bet they will end up regretting that you cant' get a 360-degree view from the main bridge.

Is that why they have two, one at the front and one at the back?

Only guessing, one at front for Navigation/battle one at back for handling aircraft

If one gets hit the other can double up as an emergency backup

Sea Trials 3 months late, American Aircraft? Possibilities of more delays (apparently)!

Nice to know we Brits can can still do things properly!crying

Sea Trials 3 months late

For the biggest newest warship Europe has ever built, with a brand new (dodgy?) propulsion system

Only 90 days late is astounding

I still think at least one of them should have had a catapult, just in case

When it's finished, that's going to make a mighty fine ocean-going skateboard park.

It'll almost certainly be fitted with several military grade rear view mirrors.

The real costs are going to be the F35s and the defence screen

One aircraft carrier usually needs a bunch of support destroyers and ships and a submarine to help keep it safe

Not to mention a bunch of 'patriots' prepared to give their lives for someone else's cause.

I suspect they will fit Meteor to the J35 eventually, so for any enemy aircraft to be in visual range would mean a catastrophe has happened to the air cover and the carrier could then be considered a soft target and sinkable by anything bigger than a pistol.

Regards,

Richard.
