1487 forum posts 582 photos | I have just discovered this small lathe on ebay. I have not seen it before. I have no intention of buying one but it may be of interest to somebody. The base looks like it might be a piece of steel rail from a railway track. Edited By Brian John on 09/11/2015 17:37:25 |

I have seen this very thing done and remember a knowledgeable friend explaining why it is not the best way to provide a very stiff foundation for a lathe bed. I think one of the pictures in the listing illustrates turning nuts! |

It may work -or it may not... I'm guessing that the prayer beads are an essential before you try any real turning. I recognise the steel bar in the picture - I used to hammer it into the ground and tie a boat up to it. I suppose they are honest, it does look like a DIY lathe, although if my workshop turned that out, I'd be ashamed to show it to anyone. I've seen a better lathe made in a WW2 concentration camp! I wonder if it comes with a CE mark and a test certificate? Neil

Duncan no need to be so mean, this apparently has a standard morse taper spindle and tailstock. Can't get that on the adepts |
