They must be dumping them as I bet nobody knows they exist. Have to see if we can fly it on the church flagstaff and hear what people say. |

I hesitate to suggest the following (because the software of the forum now works and seems to be fairly stable) but why not let the computer/website/server or whatever it is, automatically detect and put the members country in the profile? The reason many don't is perhaps because it doesn't depend on your wishes but their own. Strangely, most people are rather averse to others who seek to control them and will happily go their own way notwithstanding - including being "lazy" if it suits them. (Why is that term always dragged out with no evident justification? .... "If you don't do things my way it must be because you're too lazy"? ). |

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | If people want to keep their personal information private that is their prerogative. The fact that some people will view a profile because they are curious about the poster is one reason why some people don't want to fill one in - many people watch the forum for a long time before deciding to post, feeling that they have to share personal information would just be another barrier to participation. If someone's enquiry can be better answered by knowing which area they are in, ask them in a non-threatening way, rather than berating them for not wishing to share personal information.

![]() 694 forum posts 2 photos | In this day and age it is not wise to publish any more personal information than is really necessary on any web site. The current TalkTalk problems illustrates just how easy it is for villains to obtain sufficient information to steal another's identity or take money from them using clever scams. I know that the vast majority of people using this forum are perfectly decent and honest however as they used to say in the last war " the enemy is always watching and listening" |

I can see where you are going but just a town will help no end and it's not like Lambton, Oxford as an example will make it easy to track you down.
Couple of sites I go on you have to be registered to post and need a town or you can't register. Ok you could put any town in but it's that generic it isn't a breach of security. These hackers are after credit card details not go round the houses trying to track a non-de-plume to an area. |

However I have a different problem, I have to keep my suppliers accounts secret from the Delectable Debs ™ or I could soon be the new owner of wondrous amounts of fancy workshop stuff |

![]() 6956 forum posts 229 photos | Norman, I move around a bit so flag and profile both apply but not sure where you got the Northampton bit from. The details in the non visible part of the profile whose purpose is obscure is deliberately obfuscating, My copies of ME and MEW arrive ok which is the main thing But you do need to be security conscious. I never give my correct date of birth online or even to friends and only give my correct address if I am actually getting something delivered. Even in hotels I only give my work address which would find me if I say left my phone behind but they don't need to know my actual home. Edited By Bazyle on 26/10/2015 17:08:45 |

Sorry Bazyle When I click on your name at the top of the post it says Hertfordshire - I have no idea why I posted " Northampton" ! I think I will blame "stress" as, at present, the house is full of plumbers all beavering away at upgrading our heating system before the cold weather arrives! Norman ( ps In the past I would have done this type of work myself but now I guess I'm getting old and I find letting someone else stand on their head to get in the right position is preferable!)
