“In process of building my shed”
My name is Ralph, I am 23 and an apprentice engineer. I have come into this hobby from my keen interest in collecting and restoring old tools. I have recently purchased a 10x20 ft workshop and am in the process of building it.
All of my tools and equipment are old, including a 1916 Drummond of 6" centre height and 48" between centres, a 1906 3.5" x 16" Drummond and two late 19th / early 20th century Britannias of 6" x 35" (no.16) and 7" x 42" (a "special" no.17 with several non-standard features).
My main interests are in tooling and recreating many of their old accessories, as well as working models of machine tools.
I very much enjoy doing things the old ways and learning the old ways of working from the 19th and the first half of the last century. I have been inspired by the way these old tools were made and how good they can still be today, which has made me want to bring them back to life in the ways they were intended.
