280 forum posts 40 photos | Many years ago I used to own a vineyard on the Isle of Wight, I used to do guided tours for the visitors. Once when I had started a tour some more people arrived and I had to ask them to wait. A few minutes later a couple of Vulcan bombers started to circle overhead and remained doing so for several minutes. It kept them happy whilst waiting, better than any sideshow that I could have organised! |

![]() 7468 forum posts 230 photos | I was a bit optimistic with the E-Fan, its maximum speed is 220kph, and its cruising speed is160kph. Over the next year or three you might find you are getting buzzed by a Sopwith Camel or similar vintage, rather than a Spitfire. Ian S C |

622 forum posts 24 photos | Traveling between major cities in Australia can be a bit tedious, hundreds of kilometers with nothing but paddocks. Earlier this year I was cruising quietly along and spotted a crop duster ahead, spraying a paddock. After a while I lost sight of it, and thought that he has gone away. Imagine my surprise when I saw him, in front of me flying left to right about 20 feet up. He timed his run to perfection, crossing the road about a cars length in front of me, I'm sure I ducked! I suppose even crop dusters get bored! cheers Bill |

218 forum posts 8 photos | How about 8 merlins? the Canadian Lanc is over here and is being paired up with the one from Conningsby, they should be doing about 60 shows while its over here, that would be a nice sight to see. Anybody got any idea whether Just Jane has had her new engines yet? Dick |

![]() 34 forum posts | Went to RAF Marham on Thursday and saw the two Lancs flying together with two Spitfires so had ten Merlins purring away. Must have been an awsome sound when they went off on a raid. Saw Diamond Lil about twenty odd years ago when she made the trip over here but not the same sound to send shivers down your back like the Merlins do. Keith. |

297 forum posts 18 photos | I was working in the garden on Saturday afternoon when I was alerted by the sound of several jets approaching. I looked up to see the Red Arrows fly directly overhead in 2 groups of 5 & 4 planes all in perfect formation. Not quite a Spitfire or a Lancaster but a very enjoyable "buzz" all the same! Martin. |

![]() 7468 forum posts 230 photos | A few days ago, think I spotted a FW-190 heading north, up the inland side of the Canterbury Plains, if it was it would be ZK-RFR from Omaka at the north of the South Island, it's powered by a 1700hp Shvetsov A Sh-82T radial engine, probably made in China. 1826 forum posts 1 photos | The BBMF with the Canadian Lancaster as a bonus, displayed over Dunsfold Wings & Wheels on Sunday, really impressive! The Vulcan also displayed, what a mighty machine, we've seen it before but it never ceases to impress, I gather that next year (2015) will be its last flying year, so make the most of it! The WW1 planes were flying about for some time and were fun to watch, as were the Red Arrows, Canberra, Hunter, Spit and Hurricane, plus far too many other planes to list. As a one time (not very good) Aero modeller, I found the two quarter scale Hawks in Red Arrrows livery and under radio control were particularly fascinating, amazing how jet powered models have progressed.

Have just been roused by the sound of a Merlin engine on full song. Geoff - Busy morning at Banham Carboot with GD, who is 2.1/2yrs old, in charge. I watched a lancaster fly near our house today, it was canadian & took off from teesside airport & did a couple of circuits & landed again,it's departing tomorrow, some roads were closed near the airport there were thousands of people to see it. |

![]() 1181 forum posts 669 photos | Danny, The photo of that Harvard brought back memories of the sound they make. Once heard, never forgotten. In the '60s I watched one perform aerobatics above, then 'dive bomb', the suburb of Linden, Johannesburg. The pilot was no doubt trying to 'impress' one of the opposite sex. He stopped after a few days, probably having been 'hauled over the carpet' for his exuberance. Geoff - Still recovering from the 0300h jaunt Monday FFS! |
