More about me:

Born (as John Stevenson said) at an early age in 1947.  Developed an interest in aeroplanes, both model and full size at the age of about 7 or 8.  First model aircraft were control line as a member of the Southampton MAC.  This interest stopped at about 15 or 16 when motor bikes, girls, rock'n'roll took over.
Broke my leg in a motor bike accident in 1965, spent seven months in plaster and ten months off work
Redeveloped an interest in model aircraft as a result of exposure to free flight competition by my brother in 1978. 
Emigrated to Australia  in 1980
Developed an interest in some aspects of model engineering, sufficient to acquire a lathe.  My first lathe was a Russian "Uni 3" bought at the closing down sale of Hercus.  The Uni 3 is a nice little lathe, but I got a Sieg C3 a few years later, followed after a short time by a Sieg X2 mill.
I occasionally wake up in a cold sweat at the bargains I've missed, like
- Pick of two well equipped Schaublin 125s from work, at a very good price
- missing a Schaublin 13 mill because I couldn't get it home in time.
- missing a Smart and Brown Model A because of a change of management
- missing a Schaublin 102 TR at an auction, because I couldn't believe how low the bids were and I blinked!!
 
My current model engineering interests revolve around small model aeroplane engines and clocks
