Thread: Stewart Harts Grasshopper Beam Engine |
29/12/2020 12:33:55 |
Hi Anthony, Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my query, now I can get on with the base. Regards Metalmuncher |
28/12/2020 18:08:38 |
I have been slowly making this engine and when I come to the base plate there are two dimensions the same. One is 35mm from the end and the net one along is the same. Clearly this is wrong as this dimension is at least three times as long. Hopefully Stewart can clarify this. Happy New Year to everyone. |

Thread: MAKING QC TOOL HOLDERS |
28/10/2016 18:00:44 |
I made my own QCTH and about twenty tool holders for my S7. Saves a lot of time on a job, much better than the fourway tool post I had. Keith. |

Thread: Hemingway Compact Powered Hacksaw |
22/07/2016 20:51:10 |
There were plans for a powered hacksaw in one of the first editions of MEW. I made one and it has done me well. Its a bit slow but if you plan ahead and set it going while you do something else its fine. I'm getting too old to cut stuff up by hand. Keith. |
Thread: Does anyone know what this is |
05/06/2016 12:22:39 |
Its a diesel engine indicator, this video will explain it better than me. Its 5 and a half minutes in about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlBgaxouz8U |
Thread: Deliberate mistakes |
11/05/2016 14:19:50 |
It might be wrong to wear rings and such but its up to each and everyone of us to use our common sense and weigh up the risks. Sadly most people these days haven't got any and relie on others for their safety and then sue if it goes wrong. Just my two pence worth. |
Thread: supplier praise |
15/04/2016 16:47:45 |
I've been a customer of Arceurotrade for several years now, and their service has always been first class. When i have had problems with a machine advice and help is only a phone call away. A great company to deal with. |
Thread: MEW renewal problems |
11/03/2016 08:48:12 |
I renewed in December as my subs ended in Jan, I'm still waiting for the Feb issue. When I phoned up about why I hadn't had it was assured it would be posted out . The March issue came a few days later but still no Feb issue. Its not the first time I have had problems like this. Its time MTM got their act together and did what they say when you speak to them and not ignore the problem. Metalmuncher. |
Thread: Norden Steam Engine Video |
09/02/2016 22:20:56 |
Why o why spoil a good engine video with loud music??? We want to hear the engine working it adds nothing to the subject. Probably get shot down in flames.

Thread: Fuel tap leak |
28/11/2015 18:10:00 |
Drop it in boiling water for 10 minutes, you'll find it will swell enough to stop the leak. |
Thread: WOW moments |

I was in the car with the wife driving to Harleston when she said stop I want to take a picture of that. It was as good as I have ever seen really strong colours and it lasted for quite a while. Your picture is very good, where we were e could only see some of it, well done. Keith. |
Thread: HSS or carbide cutting tools for first lathe. |
18/08/2015 20:40:08 |
I hardly ever buy cutting tools, just braze a bit of carbide onto a square bar and grind to shape. When Witson's was in business I bought a lot from them and had a jar of used tips given me. I never bother grinding to a set angle, just make sure you get a good edge and set to centre height. Just my two penny worth and it works for me. |
Thread: Plastic off cuts |

I certainly didn't and I won't be taken in again.

Just saw the Vulcan Pass over the house enroute from Ipswich to Norwich, great sight and sound. Keith. |

Geoff, I'm in the Pulhams and their flightline from their base is right over our house, no mistaking those Merlins purring away. They also have an A6 Texan which is a radial so you might have heard that. I have been to their air strip and got up close to them But I just checked their website and they don't seem to do open days now. Keith.

Geoff Keep a lookout for the two Mustangs from Hardwick up most weekends, they are both Merlin powered and sound lovely. Keith. |
Thread: Electrolysis style rust removal |
17/06/2015 13:34:40 |
Electrolysis is a great derusting tool to have. I bought a Mamod stream wagon which was pretty rusty and I used electrolysis to clean it up. It also took all the old paint off and a quick rub with a scourer soon had it good enough to repaint. looks like new now. Keith. |
Thread: Couple of things at Lidl |

I bought a set of diamond needle files there last week seems like good quality to me. Love their instore bakery too especially the cheesy rolls. Keith. |
