Yet another scam lathe sale on ebay to be aware of

On Ebay it says that he has been a member since 04/01/2021 (2 days!) but he has 10 good feedbacks.

That would stop children from selling a deceased parents workshop and if the seller puts the real location as Dunoon we are back where we started.

Don't worry. I'm sure it will be back soon. Might be different user name or location, maybe different lathe. And if we keep looking and pointing out scams like this eventually he will switch to different category. Car parts, rare collectibles, antiques... People like this won't give up easily

He's just relisted both items again!

He seems to have decent knowledge of what appeals to people, more than the average persons knowledge on this subject, it is very suspicious.

I've just replied to the lathe advert and asked him if this is another scam!

He's popped up on another account, 4 listing, 2 cnc lathe type machines, instructions PayPal is not accepted, hope it's OK to post a link in the interest of stopping people being scammed.

Business name and address, a member since 2016 and not really that remote, Norfolk.

Google 'little man' shows address to be an office block amongst other posh office blocks. Not a workshop in sight.

I think you're right, seemed suspicious asking for no payment with PayPal and no feedback, this scamming thing can make you quite distrustful.

My lathe has gone, for now, other than report it, not much you can do, it's a pretty grey area, the general consensus from scams of this type from Internet searches, is you willingly gave your money to someone without checking who they are, and what they're selling, so it's tuff luck.

Simply ringing the numbert he' has given you in the ad won't tell you much unless you expect scammers to cave in as soon as you ask if an item is legit.. Calling then asking them to call you back via a land line would help. Anyone can do basic checks of a land line number and genuine sellers won't mind, after all this lathe is being sold by a business seller so they will have a landline.

You could for also check this seller by Googling the company and contacting them via their website (not foolproof but pretty good) and as a business, you could probably pay them with a credit card, which is much the safest way to pay, where possible.

To be honest, this item doesn't raise my suspisions in the way Boxford man did.

Probably not a scammer, active Limited company since 2009, accounts filed up to date, genuine VAT number. Ebay account name is same as Company Secretary.

Limited companies, and VAT numbers, are easy to check out on Companies House website.

Scammers should be called out, but got to be careful not to libel genuine people./companies If libel is the right word.
