Good YouTube videos

Whinging crap? My post was there to indicate a problem with the CoC, not your particular posting. But if the cap fits.... as they say....

JB clearly considered the point relevant and has removed a link, to at least one you-tuber, from this thread.

There is now no excuse (in the future), when someone transgresses the CoC on this point, to quote this thread as mitigation - because it contains links to inappropriate “employees’ of cheap rubbish sellers on internet selling platforms.

I particularly avoid those cheap sites that sell rejects or surpluses - unless I can afford to throw the items away if they are carp. Especially as their customer service is virtually non-existent. Advertising ‘through the back door’ has been oulawed on the forum. We now have a more level playing field for the good UK suppliers - even if the unit costs are, unsurprisingly, a little higher.

Perhaps you think that some of the forum advertisers/sponsors were whinging about the cheap competition from the rubbish suppliers? They were not - they were complaining of the free advertising on the forum afforded to these outlets - those who were often supplying unsafe (by european standards) kit - particularly wrt electrical safety/testing.

I particularly like This Old Tony on YouTube. He does some good stuff and sounds just like Alan Alda!

I like his videos too, for both the humour and the content - one little niggle (and it's probably become his trademark now) is the abrupt cutting off of his commentary when scenes change. Or is it just me?

Joe Pieczynski on Youtube is a good site for learning milling and turning techniques for amateur machinists. This is a link to some of his videos for machining a cylinder casting for a model steam engine.

Joe is not an expert on steam engine operation but has a good knowledge of machining, work holding and set-up applications. I may not do the same as him but always learn something new. Such as using a tooling ball to set up the job for driling inclined holes. (Not heard of them before).

Does anyone know if the youtuber Mrpete Tubal cain is the one & only who gets mentioned on here & has published books.

No he's not the same

"Tubal Cain" was the pen name of Tom Walshaw, a professional engineer and academic, and a very expert and prolific contributor to ME, and also author, until his death in 1998.

Since his death someone else has adopted the name ( which is a biblical reference) to make uTubes etc., I don't know anything about the new guy.

I watch Joe and many of the others mentioned being a insomniac I watch loads of YT, but getting back to Joe of late I find he's got long winded but still good content I have given up watching Adam Booth since he became a 'full time' tuber

Just my $0.02 worth re UT:

-Keith Rucker - can't stand the constant yap, and from some of the casting pattern work he has shown, he is winging it, at least with castings, and is getting a lot of coaching from the foundry. Nothing wrong with that but he would like to portray himself as a master of all old technology. Mostly yap and not much "work" content. The steam stoker engine seriesis a good example. Probably a dozen videos and just finished disassembly!

-Adam Booth - definitely getting commercial, BIG ad plugs midway thru on most videos.

-Blondihacks - honest and entertaining, with humour, she is a beginner at steam models and openly says so.

-Doubleboost - honest and entertaining, with humour, Newcastle accent a treat to listen to. No embellishing in his videos, if he messes up he shows it, warts and all. Does tend to shill for Banggood stuff a lot though.

For electronic related stuff - Big Clive is very informative on electronics and a lot of fun. The continuing silliness series with the electrocution / incidental heating of various foods is entertaining. He's done pork pie, Scotch Egg, spotted dick pudding, Dutch Rookwurst and others, to date.

I am enjoying Blondihacks a lot at the moment. Plenty of goofs and ways to get out of it.

Ade's Workshop is gentle stuff, he seems to like doing things his way which can be refreshing.

Keith Appleton is also enjoyable and relaxing from a chat point of view, He likes the easy way to do a job, which I can't complain about.

Joe Pie seems a little formal, I think I may have been spoiled a bit by the above crew.

I agree. I stopped watching K Rucker a long time ago. Could not stand his blatant hints for items to be donated. Also he was/is a bit of a hammer merchant. His castings for straight edges were a ripoff design direct from one he bought elsewhere apparently. His machinery.org site is handy though and I have uploaded manuals to it in the past.

Used to enjoy Adam in his earlier video's but he has put out nothing worth watching for some time.

I like John and have done a few deals with him and he did the ali casting for my dividing head.

Quinn at Blondihacks is great and quite a laugh.

Adam Savage's Tested Mainly dealing with making models and movie props. In recent years his videos have involved more machining based projects.

Banjo Show Creative steampunk themed projects.

Clickspring Very talented New Zealand clockmaker. His videos on the "primitive" techniques involved in his reproduction of the Antikythera Mechanism are particularly interesting.

mdevink Jos de Vink's truly impressive hot air engines.

prallplatte Should all models powered by live steam look like they were made 100 years ago? No? Good.

Engineer BrunS Very entertaining and creative Russian channel.

Jaques Clabaux Model engineer making small model steam engines in French Polynesia.

De Puffende Schoorsteen The models of a Dutch model engineer.

Leslie Proper Very small steam engines - mainly for model boats.

SteamerEdge Model engineering done with a Unimat lathe.

reddrryder American collector of model and toy steam engines.

A young genius with golden hands from Vietnam : Cà Lem Restorer of old machines, building tools from scrap etc, his videos are an inspiration and very well produced.

I recently discovered Julius Sumner Miller,professor of Physics and enthusiasm. And nobody has yet mentioned the brilliant Dan Gelbart. Both highly recommended.Sorry,don’t know how to do links.
