One thing that puzzles, on one side "they" want to ban all that might maim or kill, on the other side "they" complain that the world is becoming over populated.

I`m the one who mentioned HF , i don`t generally condone bans but this is one dangerous chemical and shouldnt really be used anywhere outside a fume cupboard . One of the well publicised deaths was an experienced lab technician who was working in a fume cupboard , it still didnt save him from accidental spill.

If you bought a bottle of this say off the ebay ad. where would you put it. If you dropped the bottle you would probably kill yourself and badly injure kill your family and immediate neighbours.

The problem isnt the chemical or whatever its just human nature to be less safety concious outside a strictly controlled workplace.

Heres an example of what people get up to in their homes /gardens ,taken from a amateur chemistry forum.

The guy is trying to make HF using this very professional looking apparatus! I hope his neighbours have their windows and doors firmly sealed. Also looks like he has several other experimental apparutus going in the background.

I'd ban people who seek to ban the activities that give me pleasure.

Banning is the lazy persons way of managing the world

Because of this, banning is particularly favoured by religions and politicians

Here in Thailand if I want acid to reduce the swimming pool pH then I go to the local hardware store where they sell -1 pH hydrocholric acid. I'm amazed that I'm allowed to walk in and buy 4 gallon jerry cans of the stuff. The stuff gives me the heebie jeebies as I see it steaming from the open cap.

Whole bunch of basic chemicals useful to gardeners are banned in the uk. Must go and kill some weeds while I can still use glyphosate.

Do need a ban on fat ugly blokes featuring themselves on machining videos, and the ones who just drone on and on stretching 2 minutes of good work into a 20 minute endurance trial. At least one person on this forum is guilty of that.

They sell it here in Australia too. A bloke in town got busted for murdering his wife and disolving her body in a wheelie bin full of swimming pool acid. They got him on CCTV at the local Bunnings Hardware buying four or more five-gallon drums of the stuff. He almost got away with it too. But they found a couple of her dental fillings stuck to the inside of the drain behind his house. All that was left of her.

And ensure you don't use any dangerous chemicals to start the fire.

It's being used to treat corn because it can improve the quality to keep bread makers etc happy and fetch higher prices. Not weed killing. Trouble is that it's showing up in breast milk and body fat like many other weed killers have.

Like some other things - may just be a problem in respect to use but you wouldn't believe how many that have been tried get absorbed into potatoes and hang around for a long time.

I would like to ban people who oppose proper free speach as in what you really think rather than what is politically correct or what might upset some liberal t..t

I would ban all the PC brigade who take offence on behalf of others, who want to make us all the same, no male or female, no Mr/Mrs/Miss, no schools other than one lowest denominator one, who wring their hands for the homeless but object to housing developments, who would ban anything that posed the slightest risk of any description, and especially those that want green energy but at the same time don't want energy from wind, tide, solar, waste, gas, oil, coal, fracking, nuclear and any other innovative way of producing energy.

Bill, I agree with your sentiments regarding those that want green energy but at the same time don't want energy from wind, tide, solar, waste, gas, oil, coal, fracking, nuclear and any other innovative way of producing energy. I wonder if they would stick to these views if we said: "OK, we'll scrap all these schemes, so in future it's no TV, no computers, no smart phones or tablets, no washing machines, no street lamps, and domestic lights out by 9pm - in fact nothing using electricity that isn't vital to human existence, and the majority of power generated to go to schools, hospitals, industry, and emergency services?

And yes, I am a grumpy old man. Welcome to the club!
