![]() 260 forum posts 3 photos | A cold afternoon in the workshop - +1° C inside when I went out. Decided to put a little heat on with a single radiant bar heater which raised the temp to +5° by time I had had enough! Managed to get a left handed thread put on a shaft for a potters wheel build for a neighbour. All turned out nicely - if you pardon the pun! Seasonal greeting and wrap up warm if your escaping to the workshop! John

I can confirm that one Norman! The other problem I have is putting thing down in my clutter of ‘stuff’ then not being able to find for quite sometime like a a few days or so!😳 or maybe the get whisked off to,that parallel universe for a while!🤔 John. P.S. dyslexia doesn’t help - just makes with more editing!!!

Hi. Converted a cheap mist coolant system into a 'mist busting' pressurised system for my cnc mill.
Nige, I've been experimenting with a similar setup, what are the dimensions of the nozzle you are using and how have you arranged the mixing of air/coolant? Hi Graeme W There is no mixing nozzle as such, the coolant simply drips into the air flow. The original block that came with the mist coolant effectively becomes a tee block, it's not necessary to start with a mist coolant.(I bought the mist coolant because it had the regulating valve at a very economical cost, but in the end that valve was ineffective). All the tubing is all 4 mm o/d, the outlet nozzle is 4 mm o/d brass tube. I have attached a rough schematic below. I considered a few much more elaborate arrangements, this very simple arrangement is working very much to my satisfaction, I wanted to have a very low coolant consumption, just enough to lubricate the cutter.
Hope this helps and good luck with your set up.
Nige Edit - The coolant exits the brass tube nozzle in droplets with no misting. Edited By tractionengine42 on 13/12/2017 10:55:21 |

Make them in batches. 3, 5, 10 whatever. It really speeds the process up. |

This time of year is our "winter" too - chilly enough up here near the Laos border and the Mighty Mekong river in the evenings to recquire a t-shirt or heavens forbid, occasionally a sweat shirt. Daytime temps of mid 20's C, zero humidity.... Sorry, carry on.... Posted by Johnboy25 on 12/12/2017 19:03:32:

![]() 963 forum posts 2 photos | I met a friend at the local rifle range a few weeks ago and he mentioned that he had been busy installing three 6-axis machining centres ($2 Au million each). I did not realise that this particular mate was into the metal game so I asked him about bar ends and off-cuts of known provenance. I said that a bit of decent dural would come in handy to make some con rods. This is what he turned up with a few days later. It's 20mm thick, now I have to figure out how to cut it into smaller lumps, might test the old 6x4 bandsaw elevated to the vertical mode. Harder than a witch's t*ts. It cost me an $18 donation to the brew club. I told him that the material was actually required for the con rods for some 1.5cc model diesel engines that I am making so yesterday when I went to the rifle range my mate gave me this for freebies It's perfect for about 100 con rods. He said "About the bar ends, what do you want? We use anything from phosphor bronze to stainless steel, depends on the job". Donations to the brew club are much appreciated. It's nice to have such mates! * Danny M *

I have a Warco WM 16 ( the one with the 2 morse taper bought new) & I doubt whether I could actually machine a single groove like that in less than a couple of hours. Let alone the rest of the operations for the fitting. The vibration etc would be horrendous even with brand new cutters from ARC.( not cheapy ones) Do others find a WM 16 capable of such a task? 976 forum posts 805 photos | I recently made a toolholder for a QCTP on my CMD 10 (which is a VERY small mill - 150 Watts) That probably took under an hour and no particular vibration. It's worth checking that the gibs are tightened up (my Z axis was not for a while - you need to rock it hard to and fro as it's heavy) and lock the axes you are not moving. This with (I think) a 10mm Carbite end mill for the roughing out and an HSS dovetail for the dovetail.
