![]() 858 forum posts 215 photos | OK. I have one of those large green paper driving licences. It says that the licence covers motorcycles over 50cc and capable of more than 50kmh with or without a sidecar - on a provisional basis. Since my licence was issued in the last century, what am I now entitled to ride in the 21st century with this licence? Been on the DVLA website and I wasn't clear how it dealt with last century licences...

Edited By Steve Withnell on 18/04/2016 17:53:52 I got one of those green ones too and I belt around on my restricted to 30 mph, no passengers and no CBT moped legally and without "L" plates as I do not want to appear inexperienced. Had licence and moped carefully checked and no problems by the polis when my moped supposedly overstayed its time in a popular low price supermarket car park 220 miles from home, I had been cloned by a VW Tiguan and somebody wanted 60 pounds for the privelege.

Edited By Steve Withnell on 18/04/2016 17:53:52 You've got full moped licence entitlement i.e no L plates or CBT , for anything else over a moped then it's a provisional for whichever category /power of bike meaning you'll need L plates and a CBT, |

After an initial panic I decided to ignore it. When I returned home I checked on the DVLA web site and it turns out that this only applies to some re-issues. So I keep my large dog-eared (all those speeding offences) paper licence for another year. Then I will be 70 and have to surrender it. JA |

![]() 713 forum posts 6 photos | I gained my full car licence in 1958 and I have never taken a motorcycle test. Yet a note that my licence allows me to drive a three-wheeler. Is that something like a Reliant Robin, or does it also include a motorcycle and sidecar? Anyone know? |
Bezzer | 20/04/2016 13:02:47 |
203 forum posts 16 photos | Nope, unless it's specified on your licence that you can, sidecars are a different category than the three wheelers, Reliants etc are classed as a motor tricycle (or were) and the other is a motorcycle fitted with a sidecar. 3 wheelers were the old crossovers where you could drive one on either a full bike or car licence,The old sidecar rule was you could ride any size of bike with a sidecar on a provisional with L plates but they stopped that one years ago when people were sticking what amounted to a tea tray with a wheel on a big bike and blasting round on L platers. |

Can any knowledgeable person explain this is simple terms, please. I suspect the numbers represent another factory engineering drawing or heat treating process. |

I remember those - like a sort of fibreglass flap, sprung so if you leant over it just folded up, and with a little dolly-wheel. Neil |
