180 forum posts | I`m using firefox & I get these adverts cutting across quite a few of the posts. I`ve reported some to DC1 & he has fixed them but I don`t get paid to do this so why should I bother. MHS should get their fingers out & fix this as this seems to be the only forum onwhich this continually happens. Maybe it happens on the other mags they produce I don`t know but I deliberately stay away from them because of this. This doesn`t happen on any other site I visit & I am getting to the stage of jacking this one in & relying on the printed mag only which is a pity as there is one hell of a lot of excellent info on this forum. Rant over Im off to homemachinist etc. P*ss*d off Fifer Edited By David Clark 1 on 17/07/2012 08:31:16 |

940 forum posts 30 photos | Hi Providing the text of the post doesn't over run and disappear under the adverts then I tend not to notice them. However I do look at them when waiting for the page to change or update and I find that better than staring at a bland screen while waiting.
Overall quite happy to have them there and if they offset some of the costs or even pay for the site then they are fine by me, better to have this forum with adverts than not to have it at all Just my five pence worth. Martin Edited By Martin W on 17/07/2012 14:07:37 |

![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Just one point of pedantry ... The size and position of the Adverts remains constant. The problem is actually that the width of the Posting expands [going under the Adverts] There is a good example here ... Scroll down the thread to see the problem. MichaelG. |

883 forum posts 11 photos | Hi Just to add to the confusion, I also get the posting boxes under-running the adverts on that thread, but only on the first page. I suspect it's the wrapped url in the middle of the page that's the culprit. I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox. Keith |

![]() 2747 forum posts 123 photos | Just to add my experiences with this advert problem. Using XP, IE8 as I have done for several years I frequently find that the adverts do overwrite the posts, however its not consistent! some days its fine and other times I cannot read the posts. Oddly compatibility mode sometimes does help but very often. I have tried to investigate what causes the variability but so far without success. As I understand it compatibility mode is provided by Microsoft to assist viewing websites that do not fully conform to the current standards/norm. That fact, and the fact that of the HUNDREDs of site I visit never have this problem leads me to the conclusion that the fault is of MHS making and not to do with what browser or computer we use. I thank DC for fixing the examples that he is made aware of but I feel he has involved himself in a never ending (and thankless) task! Ian |

David, I am sure that you are right in your first comment; but I think the variation is down to poor "browser compatibility" in the html ... which is something your web-developers need to check. There are many of us that are interested in this problem, so; why not let the developers make a few test postings ... we could then report on performance in different browsers.
