449 forum posts 72 photos | This problem has possibly been asked before and please accept my apologies if this is the case. I have an operations instruction sheet saved as a .doc document for use in my workshop and it would be very useful to be able to display this information alongside the bench using an electronic digital picture frame in place of the usual hardcopy format. The problem is that the digital picture frame is only programmed to display .jpg files. Is it possible to convert my simple .doc files into .jpg format? |

2356 forum posts 47 photos | Depending on what version of windows you have, there is a free accessory "tool" in many versions called "snipping tool" or "snip and sketch". It will make a jpeg on whatever is on the screen. You get your doc file open as you want to see it on your jpeg, then use the tool to make a snapshot of the document as a jpeg by digitizing the diagonal corners of a "frame" around the part of the image you want on the jpeg. You can also select png format as well. There is a destination folder box the file will be stored at, under the "save" icon. |

When I was working I used this method for a decade or more to stick sample screenshots into Word docs to illustrate how to use the business software I was implementing. 449 forum posts 72 photos | I have now tried the Snip option and have got it to work. Only problem is that my somewhat ancient (and small) digital photo frame has a very poor resolution and so short of looking out for a higher spec unit, I will have to give up on the idea. Thanks for all the help and I have learnt a new technique in the process.. |

My computer saves screenshots as PNG files. I then load them into a graphics program (e.g. GNU) and save as JPG. . Same is true of the iPad I have an excellent App which, whilst not a ‘graphics program’ as such, has all the functionality I need for jobs like this: **LINK** https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/cropsize-photo-size-editor/id742846888 Highly recommended … it only does a few things, but it does them very well. 325 forum posts 52 photos | I use paint many times . I open two paint pages. The one is going to have the selected info, the other one I use to past the printscreen into....From this one I select, cut & past what I want into the other paint file. When all the bits are stacked beneath each other, I can do more to it--add notes etc etc, or save it as page-1, page 2 etc so the result is displayed as you want. Thanks for all the help and I have learnt a new technique in the process.. Before giving up on the display unit there's a chance it supports formats other than jpg; worth trying some others as well. Try saving the screenshot in the other export formats, PNG, BMP, GIF, PS or even TIFF might work. (TIFF Is best but beware, the files are MASSIVE!) The poor image may be due to conversion losses going from text to screen to jpeg. Screenshot programs like snip are limited by the resolution of the computer screen whilst jpeg applies a compression algorithm that's optimised for photographic images rather than text. PNG is more suitable for graphics and text, and BMP better again. It's unlikely a digital photo-frame supports TIFF or PS. Best results are from programs that go direct from text to a lossless image format. PS (Postscript) is often used for phototypesetting, which allows much higher resolutions than computer screens. I was going to recommend one but when I tested it, the stupid thing converts black text on white paper to black on black. So far I can't fix it. Dave

2276 forum posts 801 photos | My 2010 version of MS Word can save a document in pdf format which I convert to jpg in Photoshop (or similar). Photoshop can set the resolution of the jpg image when it is imported and converted. I do a similar process when saving a Solidworks drawing that is uploaded here on MEW. Files can be saved in a lot of formats, including jpg but I have found that a higher resolution image is produced if I first export it as a pdf and then converted to jpg. A screen captured image will only save it at the resolution of the computer display. |
